Astro Del Ciel Posted by on Dec 23, 2016 in Uncategorized

Astro Del Ciel (Star from The Sky) is the Italian version of Steven Spielberg’s famous Sci-fi film ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’ …  CUT … CUT!

Astro Del Ciel, take 2:

Astro Del Ciel (Star from The Sky) is the Italian version of the famous Austrian Christmas carol ‘Stille Nacht’ (‘Silent Night’) composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818. However, although the melody of this very popular Italian carol is identical, the lyrics are completely different.
In 1937 a Bergamo priest called Angelo Meli (1901-1970) published a set of Italian lyrics to accompany the melody of ‘Stille Nacht’ under the title Astro Del Cielo (Close Enounters of ….. sorry, Star Of The Sky).

So let’s sit back and take a little trip down memory lane, back into those magical childhood days.

It’s Christmas Eve, and outside snowflakes gently flutter past the window. You hear the sound of hooves on the hardened snow that blankets your quaint little Edwardian town. There’s a melodic jingling of bells as a reindeer pulls a bright red sleigh through the night. A log fire crackles merrily before you in the living room, and above it, large, hopeful stocking are suspended from the mantle piece. In one corner, the beautiful Christmas tree glitters and winks with its many baubles and coloured lights.

Suddenly, a brighter bluish light glares through the curtains and around the door frame. Startled, you turn your gaze from the tree, and there, right in front of your house, a monstrous spacecraft settles to the ground …. no no no … stop it Geoff … it’s Christmas, remember, not Close Encounters!?!

Sorry about that folks. Well, I suppose I’d better just give you the lyrics before I get carried away again. Click on the video to hear a contemporary version of Astro Del Ciel performed by Laura Pausini.

Astro del ciel, Pargol divin,
mite Agnello Redentor!
Tu che i Vati da lungi sognar,
Tu che angeliche voci nunziar,
luce dona alle genti
pace infondi nei cuor!
luce dona alle genti,
pace infondi nei cuor!

Star of the sky, divine Child,
Redeemer meek Lamb!
You, whom the Prophets dreamt about from far away,
You, whom angelical voices announced,
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!

Astro del ciel, Pargol divin,
mite Agnello Redentor!
Tu di stirpe regale decor,
Tu virgineo, mistico fior,
luce dona alle genti,
pace infondi nei cuor!
luce dona alle genti,
pace infondi nei cuor!

Star of the sky, divine Child,
Redeemer, meek Lamb!
You of pride of regal descendancy,
You virginal, mystical flower,
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!

Astro del ciel, Pargol divin,
mite Agnello Redentor!
Tu disceso a scontare l’error,
Tu sol nato a parlare d’amor,
luce dona alle menti,
pace infondi nei cuor!
luce dona alle genti,
pace infondi nei cuor!

Star of the sky, divine Child,
Redeemer meek Lamb!
You descended to atone for our errors,
You born only to speak of love,
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!
give light to the people,
bring peace to their hearts!

Buone Feste!

      @Andrei Salve Andrei!
Ho dato un’occhiata sull’internet e alcuni siti riportano ‘dona luce alle genti’, altri ‘dona luce alle menti’. Quale sia l’originale non lo so.
Saluti di Buon Anno da Serena

    Grazie
