Blue’s Favourite Song Posted by on Apr 16, 2018 in Uncategorized

Who is Blue? She’s a little blue shoe …

N.B. If this blog doesn’t make any sense to you then you obviously haven’t read Le Avventure Di Uno Scarpone.

Qualche filo d’erba
col fango disseccato
tra i chiodi ancor pareva conservar.
Era uno scarpone militar.

Up there in a dusty closet,
amongst a thousand useless things,
I spied, rather worn and crestfallen,
an old friend from my youth.
Between his nails he seemed to have kept
some blades of grass
with the dried out mud.
It was an old military boot.

Vecchio scarpone,
quanto tempo è passato,
quante illusioni
fai rivivere tu,
quante canzoni
sul tuo passo ho cantato
che non scordo più.

Old boot,
how much time has passed,
how many dreams
you make me live again,
so many songs which
I sang to your pace
and I’ll never forget.

Sopra le dune
del deserto infinito,
lungo le sponde
accarezzate dal mar,
per giorni e notti
insieme a te ho camminato
senza riposar.

Over the dunes
of the endless desert,
along the shores
caressed by the sea,
for days and nights
I walked in with you
without a rest.

Lassù tra le bianche cime
di nevi eterne immacolate al sol
cogliemmo le stelle alpine
per farne dono ad un lontano amor.

Up there in the peaks white
of eternal immaculate snow in the sun
we picked the edelweiss
to donate it to a faraway love.

Vecchio scarpone,
come un tempo lontano
in mezzo al fango
con la pioggia o col sol
forse sapresti,
se volesse il destino,
camminare ancor.

Old boot,
as in bygone days
through the mud
beneath rain or sun,
if it were your destiny
you’d probably still be
able to walk.

Vecchio scarpone,
quanto tempo è passato,
quante illusioni
fai rivivere tu,
quante canzoni
sul tuo passo ho cantato
che non scordo più.

la mia gioventù.

Old boot,
you make me live
my youth once more.

Questa canzone fu presentata da Gino Latilla al Festival di Sanremo nel 1953, dove si classificò terza, e parla delle imprese militari durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
