Do More with the Italian Word of the Day Posted by on Aug 11, 2016 in Italian Language

How many of you subscribe to our Italian Word of the Day? (If you’re not subscribed—don’t miss out!)

How many of you open the email religiously, read and listen to the new word and phrase, then close the email and forget all about it? We’re not judging—you’re not the only one!

That minute or two of engagement isn’t enough for the average learner. Most of us have to do more to really learn and remember the day’s word. Until now, we’ve left that up to you, but no longer! I am thrilled to announce the Italian Word of the Day course now available in Transparent Language Online. Word of the Day devotees, you’re going to love this… here are just a few reasons why.

WOTD-Italian-1

1. Words you’ll actually use… and some for laughs.

The Word of the Day content is unlike anything you’ll find in a textbook or on audio tape. These lessons cover the actual spoken language—you know, those words and phrases you always wanted to ask your teacher about, but never quite built up the courage to do so.

2. Do more, remember more.

We remember about 10-20% of what we read or hear, but up to 80-90% of what we do. Unfortunately, opening an email or retweeting doesn’t really count as doing. The Word of the Day courses let you interact with those new words and phrases we send to your email through listening, speaking, reading, and writing—now that’s a lot to do.

3. Learn in context.

It’s fun to receive a new word and phrase in your email each day. But it’s effective to really engage with it long after that email is buried in your inbox. With Fill in the Blank and Matching, you can dissect each phrase and understand how the pieces fit together.

4. Speak up!

If you’re learning a language, chances are you want to be able to speak it. Pronunciation Practice lets you compare your accent to that of a native speaker, while Multiple Choice lets you select the correct answer using only your voice!

5. Test yourself.

Let’s face it – we all hated exams in school. But how do you measure what you actually know? Each lesson includes an assessment, so you can put your Word of the Day knowledge to the test.

6. Keep it fresh.

One word per day adds up quickly, so it’s easy to let a few words slip. But don’t fear! These courses are tied to a unique refresh system in the program that keeps track of what you’ve learned and reminds you to practice older words periodically. We want you to remember all 365 new words at the end of the year.

  1. Mike Rose:

On your advice I signed on for a 14 day trial. However, it was confusing. The first page started with choices of four simple words or phrases, no instructions, very slow. More important, later I received an email with the sender “info” from Italy saying I would be interested in this story. I looked at the unknown recipients, and did not open the link as it looked very doubtful. My suggestion is be careful as this could be hacked.

  2. Rosalind:

I agree with Mike, very confusing first page with no instructions, no choice of level of proficiency and on a mobile phone can only be used in landscape mode which is not practical.

The idea is great but I shan’t be following up on this.
