Well, I did warn you that there are a lot of idiomatic expression with the verb fare!

1. idiomatic weather expressions with fare:

fare caldo/freddo = to be hot/cold: oggi fa proprio freddo! = it’s really cold today!

fare bel/brutto/cattivo tempo = to be nice/horrible/bad: siamo stati fortunati, ha fatto bel tempo tutto il fine settimana = we were lucky, the weather was lovely for the whole weekend

che tempo fa? = what’s the weather like?: (al telefono) qua piove, che tempo fa lì? = (on the telephone) it’s raining here, what’s the weather like there?

2. fare una chiacchierata or fare due/quattro chiacchiere = to have a chat: ieri ho visto Paolo per strada e abbiamo fatto due chiacchiere = I saw Paolo in the street yesterday and we had a chat

3. fare schifo = to disgust: devo ammettere che il pesce crudo mi fa schifo = I must admit that raw fish disgusts me.

4. fare i complimenti = to compliment: mi ha fatto i complimenti per il mio vestito nuovo = he complimented me on my new dress

5. fare una domanda = to ask a question: la polizia ci ha fatto tante domande = the police asked us lots of questions

6. fare un giro = to take a tour: giovedì scorso abbiamo fatto un giro delle Cinque Terre = last Thursday we took a tour of the Cinque Terre

7. fare un viaggio = to take a trip: in aprile Valentina ha intenzione di fare un viaggio a New York = Valentina intends to take a trip to New York in April

8. fare un regalo = to give a gift: Adele gli ha fatto davvero un bel regalo = Adele gave him a really nice present

9. fare un discorso = to make a speech: all’inizio della conferenza il Dottor Rossi ha fatto un discorso molto interessante sulle nuove tecniche = at the beginning of the conference Dr. Rossi made a very interesting speech about the new techniques

10. fare discorsi = to discuss: abbiamo già fatto tanti discorsi sul nuovo impianto idroelettrico = we’ve already had a lot of discussions about the new hydro-electric plant

11. fare una visita = to visit (doctor/dentist/hospital etc.): devo fare una visita dal dentista quest’altro venerdì = I have to go and see the dentist (for an appointment) next Friday

12. far vedere = to show: mi fai vedere quel libro per favore? = can you show me that book please?

    Due altri usi che vengono in mente: fare senso – più o meno come fare schifo; fare il bucato – wash clothes.

      @Charlie DeWeese Salve Charlie, allora, fare senso è un’espressione molto utile, non solo per il suo significato ma anche perché si confonde facilmente con ‘avere senso’ (to make sense).
      D’altronde, fare il bucato è su per giù una traduzione diretta dell’inglese ‘do the washing’. Io mi sono concentrato più che altro sulle espressioni dove ‘fare’ non traduce necessariamente ‘to do’ o ‘to make’. Ecco perché ho tradotto ‘fare la spesa’ con ‘to go/do the shopping’.
