Il Giorno del Ringraziamento – Thanksgiving Day

Ciao a tutti!

Thursday November 26th is Thanksgiving Day in the United States! I sincerely hope that you and your families are well and in good health.

Beninteso (certainly) this year is less than ideal for all of us. Despite this being my festa preferita (favorite holiday) I will be celebrating da sola (alone) out of an abundance of caution. Nonostante (nevertheless) I have a lot to be riconoscente or grata (thankful) for, like being able to write for you all each week! The pandemic has even allowed me some extra time to pick up a new hobby, gli scacchi (chess) in linea ovviamente (online obviously.)

(A challenge for you: despite this very difficult year, find something you are grateful for thanks to the pandemic.) Scrivetemelo qui sotto! (Write it for me below!)

E adesso… certamente we all know the storia delle feste, but I wanted to share the video below so that you can listen to a brief history of the holiday in Italian, for some listening practice.

Qualche vocabolario dal video:

Some other vocabulary I’d like to aggiungere (add):

E finalmente, la cornucopia – and finally, the cornucopia. (A horn-shaped vase, filled with fruit and crowned with herbs and flowers, a symbol of prosperity and fertility.) Did you know that this symbol actually originated in classical antiquity and Greek and Roman mythology?

I’d rather receive a smile from a stranger than see a mask, because I’m not afraid of getting covid19 from them. I’d rather shake someone’s hand, than constantly use anti-bacteria gel because it’s better to build up your immune system than rely on hand sanitizers. I’d rather laugh with and hug my friends, than be alone because I’m not afraid of getting covid19. I’d rather be with my loved ones than be alone and scared of getting covid19 which 99.99% of the population will survive like a bad flu.

@cathleen anderson Then go volunteer in your local hospital’s ICU.

      • Sabrina Fedel:

@Mikki I have been able to slow down and work on my Italian – mostly through Duolingo, but also this blog and posts from my cousins. Thank you this blog!

  2. Rosanna McFarlin:

  3. mariacarina:

  6. Patrizia:

Grazie! Questa storia mi piace tantissimo.
    Felice Ringraziamento…

  7. Rosanna g McFarlin:

  8. Rosanna g McFarlin:
