Non è Marzo, ma amo questa canzone! Posted by on Jun 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

It isn’t March, but I love this song by Giorgia, la mia cantante italiana preferita (my favourite female Italian singer), so much that I want to share it with you.

Who is Giorgia? well, it seems to come more naturally to say it in Italian: è una bellissima ragazza Romana dalla voce stupefacente che mi fa venire addirittura i brividi! Here’s a link to her bio (in Italian) on the official website: Giorgia – Biografia and another link to a bio in English: Giorgia Todrani – Biography

O.K. here’s Marzo, by Giorgia, with my translation into English (obviously it’s much more beautiful in Italian, but you get the idea), you’ll find the video here:

Marzo di Giorgia

Le cose non vanno mai come credi
un’altra notte ti svegli e ti chiedi
se hai sbagliato per quella promessa
se hai mentito per una carezza
per questo viaggio ci vuole coraggio
per questo amore pieghiamo il destino
ti resto accanto su questo cammino
però ti prego tu dammi la mano
I’ll show you something good (something good)
I’ll show you something good

Things never go how you think they will
another night, you wake up and ask yourself
if you’ve made a mistake for that promise
if you’ve lied for a caress
for this journey you need courage
for this love we bend destiny
I’ll stay beside you on this path
but I ask you to give me your hand
I’ll show you something good (something good)
I’ll show you something good

amami!!!

And everything that’s been is already gone
we’ll put it in our past
Come with me I’ll take you
above the deserts that I’ve discovered with you
come with me and I’ll lead you
into those abysses where I’d lose myself
and I will be a queen
I’ll be the summer and the morning mist
I’ll be your honey
I’ll be your sails and for this I ask you
love me!!!

eppure ancora ti resto vicino
stanotte resta su questo cuscino
I’ll show you something good (something good)
I’ll show you something good

Things never go how you think they will
your heart is full of broken tears
time is a thief of things unsaid
and I know that one can never go back
and yet I’ll still stay close to you
stay on this pillow tonight
I’ll show you something good (something good)
I’ll show you something good

amamiiiiii

And everything that’s been is already gone
we’ll put it in our past
Come with me I’ll take you
above the deserts that I’ve discovered with you
come with me and I’ll lead you
into those abysses where I’d lose myself
and I will be a queen
I’ll be the summer and the morning mist
I’ll be your honey
I’ll be your sails and for this I ask you
love me!!!

amamiiiiii
Le cose non vanno mai come credi
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
ancora, ancora, ancora, ancora
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii
amamiiiiii (ancora)
amamiiiiii

  1. Rod Stephens:

Totally agree about Giorgia, she sings in a crisp, clear voice that is easy to understand (for us learners) and has a bounce and variety to her voice that is compelling. Highly recommended!

  2. Marilda Reina:

Che bella voce, canzone e paesaggio. A beautiful production! Thanks! Grazie! Mari

  3. Don Bravin:

  4. joseph:

not my cup of tea for me great
    Italian singers are peoplen like\
Tebaldi, Freni now those are ITALIAN
    singers

    • Geoff:

@joseph Salve Joseph, Of course at the end of the day it all comes down to taste. However, Tebaldi and Freni are both operatic singers, and so there’s not much point in comparing them with Giorgia.
In our blogs we always try to show people an Italy ‘al di là degli stereotipi’ (beyond the stereotypes), one of these being Italian Opera. These stereotypes are a big problem for young Italians. It’s one of the reasons that it’s often difficult to be innovative here in Italy. (see my recent blog ‘La Crisi in Italia’).

It’s interesting that you should say “now those are ITALIAN singers”, because several Italian friends have told me that they don’t like Giorgia’s music very much because she is TOO Italian! But you’d need to be really connected to contemporary Italian culture to understand why that is.

  5. joseph:

I understand Geoff and thank you.

  6. John Kenul:

“Per questo viaggio, ci vuole coraggio”
In any language it is a great line and I love it.
In addition to the entire set of lyrics is an education. Thank you for both you efforts. I share the log and word of the day with several of my friends and they all appreciate it.

  7. concetta:

For Joseph and Geoff:Giorgia in her voice is everything but not “too italian” coz she is the ONLY ONE singer in Italy that can sing soul, blues, funky, rnb, pop and also lyric music.(in front of our Pope she sang “Ave Maria” that’s not pop but lyric 😉
U have to be a very fan of her to know that she want be ITALIAN because she loves so much her city (Rome) and all Italy and she never really wanted go out of Italy and let people know her music..she is so anxious woman and afraid to fly. A italian singer that at her begin of career was called “the italian whitney houston” I repeat is everything but not Too much italian…:-)

    • Geoff:
