Here’s an article by our friend Giovanni who’s from Puglia in the south of Italy, but currently lives and works in Toscana. I asked Giovanni to write us something based on his observations about the differences between these two regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chi conosce l’Italia sa che \u00e8 impossibile conoscere l’Italia.<\/strong>
\nAnyone who knows Italy knows that it\u2019s impossible to know Italy.<\/p>\n

Intendo dire che, poich\u00e9 il Bel Paese \u00e8 molto variegato geograficamente e culturalmente, ad un italiano occorrerebbero tre vite per esplorare e conoscere la sua stessa nazione.<\/strong>
\nWhat I mean to say is, that since Italy is very varied both geographically and culturally, an Italian would need three lifetimes to explore and know his\/her own country.<\/p>\n

Il Mare Salentino, Puglia<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Sono pi\u00f9 di sette anni che, come tanti altri, vivo la vita del pendolare, dividendomi tra lavoro al nord e affetti familiari al sud. Questo tipo di vita, oltre a rendere ricche le compagnie di trasporto (sante compagnie aeree low-cost) ti costringe ad una continua analisi, ad un continuo paragone tra i luoghi, la qualit\u00e0 della vita, la cultura, il grado di civilt\u00e0, e\u00a0 l\u2019intrattenimento:<\/strong>
\nFor more than seven years, like many other people, I’ve been living the life of a commuter, dividing myself between my job in the north and my family ties in the south. This lifestyle, besides making the transport companies richer (those ‘holy’ low-cost airlines), forces you to continuously analyse, and compare the sights, the quality of life, the culture, the level of ‘civilization’, and the entertainment:<\/p>\n

…. il mare? Quello salentino della Puglia \u00e8 il pi\u00f9 bello del mondo<\/strong>
\n…. the sea? The Salento in Puglia is the most beautiful sea in the world<\/p>\n

…. il traffico? Quando sono in Toscana posso rilassarmi mentre guido<\/strong>
\n…. the traffic? When I\u2019m in Tuscany I can relax whilst driving<\/p>\n

…. la cucina? Quella di Bari \u00e8 imbattibile<\/strong>
\n…. cuisine? Bari’s (Puglia) cuisine is unbeatable<\/p>\n

…. l\u2019educazione? E\u2019 regola in Toscana, una mera decorazione in Puglia<\/strong>
\n…. good manners? Are the norm in Tuscany, but a mere decoration in Puglia<\/p>\n

…. l’intrattenimento? ti diverti tanto in Versilia quanto a Gallipoli.<\/strong>
\n…. entertainment: you can enjoy yourself as much in Versilia (Tuscany) as you can in Gallipoli (Puglia).<\/p>\n

\"Lunigiana,<\/a>

Lunigiana, Toscana<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Per cui ti chiedi sempre: ma dove si vive meglio? Dove sono a casa?<\/strong>
\nTherefore you continually ask yourself: so where’s the best place to live? Where do I feel at home?<\/p>\n

Spesso penso che proprio noi pendolari stiamo tentando un avvicinamento, aprendo un ponte tra le due culture che faccia passare solo le parti buone e lasci davvero scomparire nel tempo gli antichi problemi.
\n<\/span><\/strong>I often think that it’s actually us commuters who are trying to bring things together, we’re opening a bridge between the two cultures that only allows the good things past and leaves the ancient problems behind to fade away with time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ed allora continuer\u00f2 ancora un poco con questa vita, almeno fino a che qualcuna non riuscir\u00e0 a farmi mettere le radici definitivamente ….
\n…. a proposito, mi chiedete, dove siano le donne pi\u00f9 belle? Beh, questa \u00e8 una domanda retorica \u2026 <\/strong>
\nAnd so I\u2019ll carry on living like this for a bit longer, at least until some female makes me put down my roots forever ….
\n…. by the way, you ask me: where are the most beautiful women? Well, that’s a rhetorical question \u2026<\/p>\n
