Carmela opened the shutters of her living room window letting in the slanting autumn sunlight and found the kitten stretched across the window sill next to the geraniums.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cAllora, tu chi sei?\u201d<\/strong> Carmela asked the little white creature, <strong>\u201cda dove sei arrivato?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The kitten turned her head towards Carmela and replied with a weak <strong>\u201cmiao\u201d<\/strong>. Carmela was immediately captivated by two tiny crossed china blue eyes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cAvrai fame immagino?\u201d<\/strong> she asked, noticing the sharp outlines of the little one\u2019s ribs, <strong>\u201cs\u00ec, sei proprio affamato, vero? Dai, vieni \u2026.\u201d<\/strong> she reached out towards the kitten which made a half hearted attempt to hide itself behind a pot of geraniums, <strong>\u201cdai, non avere paura, ho fame anch\u2019io \u2026 dai, vieni piccolino, vieni a fare colazione con me\u201d<\/strong> she said scooping the little creature up and cupping it in her warm\u00a0hands.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cMamma mia, che freddo che c\u2019hai! Vieni che c\u2019\u00e8 la stufa gi\u00e0 accesa in cucina\u201d<\/strong> she said wrapping the kitten in the folds of her old sweater and carrying it through to the kitchen where\u00a0the freshly lit\u00a0wood stove\u00a0crackled and hissed\u00a0in one corner.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Next to the stove stood an old scranno, the wooden high backed bench\u00a0on which her mamma and nonna used to sit together in the evenings, knitting socks, and occasionally feeding logs into the fire.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cEccoci, accomodati pure\u201d,<\/strong> she said, delicately placing the cold and hungry creature onto the knitted patchwork blanket which served as a cushion. <strong>\u201cE adesso vado a trovarci qualcosa da mangiare, va bene?\u201d<\/strong> she pulled one corner of the blanket over the kitten to keep it warm,\u00a0rearranged\u00a0the glowing logs in the stove, and went off to heat up some milk.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cStamattina latte caldo con brioche, ti va bene piccolino?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"justify\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/11\/DSCN2266.jpg\" aria-label=\"DSCN2266\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10478\"  alt=\"DSCN2266\" width=\"540\" height=\"638\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/11\/DSCN2266.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/11\/DSCN2266.jpg 542w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/11\/DSCN2266-296x350.jpg 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Scratch, scratch\u00a0\u2026. <strong>\u201cmiao!\u201d<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Carmela opened the living room shutters \u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cChi c\u2019\u00e8? \u2026. ciao bellissima!\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cmiao miao\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cS\u00ec s\u00ec, hai ragione, \u00e8 ora di fare colazione, scusami, sono molto in ritardo stamattina, ma sai come sono dopo le mie gite in citt\u00e0, torno sempre cotta, vero amore?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Bianchina purred loudly,\u00a0took a few steps forward, looked up at Carmela with her lovely china blue slightly crossed eyes, and rubbed her head against her friend\u2019s chin.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>\u201cSu, cosa mangiamo stamani, una bella brioche\u00a0col latte caldo, cosa\u00a0ne dici?\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u201cmiao!\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cEcco, come al solito abbiamo deciso assieme subito \u2026 poi, ho una cosa speciale per te amore mio, sai cos\u2019\u00e8 oggi?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cpurrrrr\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cS\u00ec, infatti, oggi \u00e8 il nostro terzo anniversario, pensa un po\u2019, son gi\u00e0 passati tre anni da quando ti ho trovato piccina piccina e affamata sul mio davanzale,\u00a0e quindi\u00a0ti ho portato una cosa bellissima dalla citt\u00e0.<br \/>\nL\u2019ho\u00a0notato nella vetrina di un negozio di roba per gli animali proprio accanto alla banca. Il ragazzo ha insistito che lo prendessi gratis, mi ha addirittura implorato \u2026\u2026 che strano, mi sono detta.
