Non vedo l’ora!<\/strong> (literally: I can’t see the hour)<\/em> is a very common expression meaning ‘I can’t wait!’ or = ‘I’m really looking forward to’<\/span><\/p>\n

It can be used as an exclamation on its own:
\nGiorgio: vieni a vedere la mia raccolta di antiche pistole domani?<\/strong> = Giorgio: are you coming to see my collection of antique pistols tomorrow?
\nPaolo: s\u00ec, non vedo l’ora!<\/strong> = Paolo: I can’t wait!<\/p>\n

… or with ‘di<\/strong>‘ and an infinitive to describe what you can’t wait to do:
\nnon vedo l’ora di visitare Firenze!<\/strong> = I’m really looking forward to visiting Firenze
\nnon vedo l’ora di veder il mio ragazzo questo fine settimana!<\/strong> = I can’t wait to see my boyfriend this weekend!<\/p>\n

It can, of course, be used to express what other people can’t wait to do:
\nscommetto che non vedi l’ora di provare la nuova macchina, vero?<\/strong> = I bet you can wait to try the new car, right?
\nle ragazze non vedono l’ora di aprire i regali!<\/strong> = the girls are really looking forward to opening the presents!<\/p>\n

Ora Vs Tempo<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

N.B.<\/strong> in Italian, tempo<\/strong> means both time and weather! Hence we very often use ora<\/strong> instead of tempo<\/strong> when we’re talking about the time. Look at the difference between these two example:<\/p>\n

che ora \u00e8?<\/strong> = what time is it?
\nche tempo fa?<\/strong> = what is the weather like?<\/p>\n

Here are some more important examples in which ora<\/strong> is used instead of tempo<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u00e8 ora di andare<\/strong> = it\u2019s time to go
\nera ora che tu finissi quel lavoro!<\/strong> = it was about time that you finished that job!
\nora solare<\/strong> = winter time (relating to the changing of the clock by one hour between wintertime and summertime)<\/em>
\nora legale<\/strong> = summer time (as above)<\/em>
\nora di pranzo<\/strong> = lunch time
\nora di cena<\/strong> = dinner time
\nore dei pasti<\/strong> = mealtimes
\nalla stessa ora<\/strong> or all\u2019ora solita<\/strong> = at the same time\/at the usual time
\na quest\u2019ora<\/strong> = at\/by this time e.g. se fossimo andati a piedi a quest\u2019ora saremmo gi\u00e0 arrivati<\/strong> = if we’d gone by foot we would have got there by this time, ci vediamo domani a quest’ora<\/strong> = I’ll see you tomorrow at this time.<\/p>\n
