Dear Readers, last October I began writing the chapters of Carmela\u2019s story. The idea was to present you with the main body of the narrative in English and the dialogue in colloquial Italian, thus rendering it easier to read and comprehend. According to your feedback via the comments section, this format seemed to work well for the majority of you.
\nI must admit that at the beginning I had no real idea where the story was going, but gradually, as I wrote, I began to realise that Carmela had a past, and that the events of her past were motivating her ‘interesting’ behaviour. I began to understand that Carmela was no mere bank robber or shoe fetishist, she had a clear and rational plan which she was gradually bringing to fruition.<\/p>\n

Perhaps though, it\u2019s difficult for the reader to piece together Carmela\u2019s story, fragmented as it is amongst all our other articles.\u00a0Perhaps it\u2019s time to begin putting all the\u00a0pieces together.<\/p>\n

\nshe travels from town to town by train<\/p>\n

\nshe tries to hide her expensive ankle boots from the other passengers<\/p>\n

\u00e8 molto nervosa quando un vigile comincia a parlare con lei<\/strong>
\nshe\u2019s very nervous when a policeman starts talking to her<\/p>\n

\nshe has a little black book<\/p>\n

Capitolo 2<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

tiene\u00a0una lista di luoghi da visitare<\/strong>
\nshe keeps a list of places to visit<\/p>\n

aveva intenzione di scendere a Mantova, ma dopo l\u2019incontro con il vigile ha cambiato idea ed \u00e8 scesa invece a Verona<\/strong>
\nshe intended to get off the train in Mantova, but after the meeting with the policeman she changed plan and got off in Verona instead<\/p>\n

si capisce che la sua infanzia \u00e8 stata difficile<\/strong>
\nit’s understood that she has had a difficult childhood<\/p>\n

si trova una pensione economica<\/strong>
\nshe finds herself a cheap guest house<\/p>\n

ha una pistola<\/strong>
\nshe has a pistol<\/p>\n

studia il suo libretto nero\u00a0con molto piacere e comincia a fare dei piani<\/strong>
\nshe studies her little black book with great pleasure and begins to make plans<\/p>\n

Capitolo 3<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

soffre di un incubo ricorrente<\/strong>
\nshe suffers from a repeating nightmare<\/p>\n

sogna un incendio nella sua casa d\u2019infanzia<\/strong>
\nshe dreams of a fire in her childhood home<\/p>\n

non riesce a riaddormentarsi, quindi prosegue con i suoi piani<\/strong>
\nshe can\u2019t get back to sleep, so she carries on with her plans<\/p>\n

Capitolo 4<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

scopriamo che il suo incubo ha origini reali<\/strong>
\nwe discover that her nightmare is based in reality<\/p>\n

\ninside the little black book is a newspaper cutting<\/p>\n

si capisce che nell\u2019incendio ha perso tutta la famiglia tranne il fratello che era all\u2019estero con l\u2019esercito<\/strong>
\nit’s understood that she lost her whole family in the fire\u00a0apart from her brother who was abroad with the army<\/p>\n

\u00e8 stufa e stanca, vuole tornare a casa sua e finire il suo lavoro<\/strong>
\nshe\u2019s fed up and tired, she wants to go to her own home and finish her work<\/p>\n

il suo lavoro \u00e8 quello di creare un posto dove potr\u00e0 proprio riposarsi<\/strong>
\nher work is to create a place where she can truly rest<\/p>\n

Capitolo 5<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

scopriamo che aveva adottato una gatta di nome Bianchina<\/strong>
\nwe discover that she had adopted a cat named Bianchina<\/p>\n

Bianchina abita con Carmela da tre anni<\/strong>
\nBinachina has lived with Carmela for three years<\/p>\n

quando torna dalle sue gite in citt\u00e0 porta sempre un regalo a Bianchina<\/strong>
\nwhen she gets back from her trips to town she always bring a present for Bianchina<\/p>\n

racconta a Bianchina le sue avventure e le fa vedere i nuovi acquisti<\/strong>
\nshe tells Bianchina about her adventures and shows her her new acquisitions<\/p>\n

quando ha preso l\u2019ultimo regalo per Bianchina, aveva per sbaglio la pistola in mano<\/strong>
\nwhen she got the last present for Bianchina she mistakenly had her pistol in her hand<\/p>\n

racconta che stava per entrare in banca con una pistola<\/strong>
\nshe recounts that she was about to go into a bank with the pistol<\/p>\n
