{"id":115,"date":"2009-03-31T06:15:34","date_gmt":"2009-03-31T10:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/?p=115"},"modified":"2009-03-31T06:15:34","modified_gmt":"2009-03-31T10:15:34","slug":"la-primavera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/la-primavera\/","title":{"rendered":"La Primavera!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2009\/03\/march-08-4-014.jpg\"><\/a>The 21st of March was the official beginning of <strong>Primavera <\/strong>(Spring), and as the proverb goes: <strong>\u2018a San Benedetto una rondine sotto il tetto\u2019<\/strong> (for Saint Benedict a swallow under the roof),\u00a0because in the Italian calendar the Saint for the 21st of March is <em>San Benedetto, <\/em>and when the swallows appear it\u2019s a sign that spring has arrived. But this year the swallows haven\u2019t appeared yet! Nevertheless <strong>la Primavera e\u2019 in piena fioritura <\/strong>(Spring is in full blossom), and because we had a very cold winter and a lot of\u00a0<strong>brina <\/strong>(frost) in February,\u00a0the flowers that are normally early are late this year, so that everything seems to be coming out at the same time: the bright yellow pompons of the <strong>Mimosa<\/strong> are giving way to the white blossoms of the <strong>Ciliegi <\/strong>(cherry trees) and the <strong>Susini<\/strong> (plum trees). The fields are covered in <strong>Primule <\/strong>(Primroses), whose pale yellow color counterbalances the purple of the <strong>Viole Mammole<\/strong> (Dog Violets) and <strong>Crochi<\/strong> (Crocuses), whilst bunches of <strong>Elleboro<\/strong> (Hellebores) sprout all along the hill sides.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">When walking through our <strong>orto <\/strong>(vegetable garden) we become inebriated with the perfume of <strong>Giunchiglie <\/strong>(Jonquils, a small variety of white narcissus or daffodil) and <strong>Narcisi <\/strong>(Narcissus or daffodils), whose bright yellow trumpets stand proudly next to the blue of the wild <strong>Giacinti <\/strong>(Hyacinths). In private gardens and parks the <strong>Camelie <\/strong>(Camellias) are displaying their beautiful round flowers\u00a0in a rich variety\u00a0 of nuances, from blood red to the most delicate pink. The first timid <strong>Farfalle<\/strong> (Butterflies) are venturing out, together with a few <strong>Api <\/strong>(Bees), while <strong>Lucertole <\/strong>(Lizards) are darting up and down the stone walls.
