Venerd\u00ec sera, verso le sette, \u00e8 suonato il telefono. Era la vicina di casa dei miei: \u201cTua mamma \u00e8 caduta e si \u00e8 rotta la gamba\u2026 L\u2019ambulanza \u00e8 gi\u00e0 venuta e l\u2019ha portata all\u2019ospedale\u201d mi ha detto.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Friday evening at about seven o\u2019clock the phone rang. It was my parents\u2019 neighbour: \u201cYour mother has fallen and broken her leg\u2026 the ambulance has already come and taken her to hospital\u201d she told me.<\/p>\n

Oddio!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh God!<\/p>\n

Siamo partiti subito per l\u2019ospedale dove ci siamo recati al pronto soccorso.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We set off straight away to the hospital where we made our way to the emergency first aid department.<\/p>\n

\u201cSua madre \u00e8 gi\u00e0 a radiologia a fare le lastre\u201d ci ha detto l\u2019infermiera, \u201csi accomodi in sala d\u2019attesa e quando sua madre torna su la faccio entrare\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYour mother is already in radiology having an x-ray done\u201d the nurse told us, \u201cmake yourselves comfortable in the waiting room and when your mother comes back up I\u2019ll let you in\u201d.<\/p>\n

Abbiamo aspettato una mezz\u2019oretta, e poi finalmente l\u2019abbiamo vista. Era stordita e dolorante ma molto sollevata di vederci.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We waited for around half an hour, and then we finally saw her. She was confused and in pain but very relieved to see us.<\/p>\n

Pi\u00f9 che altro era preoccupata per mio pap\u00e0, che ha 90 anni ed era rimasto solo a casa, e per la sua gattina che non aveva niente da mangiare (mio pap\u00e0 non vuole avere niente a che fare con la gatta!).<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than anything she was worried about my father, who is 90 and had been left on his own at home, and about her little cat who didn\u2019t have anything to eat (my father doesn\u2019t want anything to do with the cat!)<\/p>\n

So, at the moment my mind is full of hospital words! Here is a bit of hospital vocabulary which hopefully you\u2019ll never have to use but non si sa mai!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u00c8 risultato che mia mamma si \u00e8 rotta il femore. L\u2019hanno gi\u00e0 operata e le hanno messo i chiodi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It turned out that mother has broken broke her femur. They have already operated on her and pinned the bone (literally put in the nails).<\/p>\n

Per il momento sta bene di umore, ma dovr\u00e0 restare in ospedale per circa una settimana<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the moment she is quite positive, but she\u2019ll have to stay in hospital for about a week.<\/p>\n
