In this weeks blockbuster blog, our hero, Geoff, demonstrates immense courage in the face of a ferocious Italian dentist. Based on a true story!<\/span><\/p>\n

The characters: Geoff, the dentist, and the secretary
\nThe setting: a private dental surgery in Italy<\/p>\n

Segretaria<\/b><\/b>: “Buongiorno, come posso esservi utile?”<\/b>
\nSecretary: “Good morning, how can I help you?”<\/p>\n

Geoff: “Ho un forte dolore sul lato destro della mandibola, non riesco a mangiare dal dolore<\/b>.<\/b> <\/b>H<\/b>o dovuto prendere doppia dose di antidolorifici”<\/b>
\nGeoff: “I’ve got a strong pain on the right side of my jaw, I can’t eat because of the pain. I had to take a double dose of painkillers”<\/p>\n

Segretaria: “Parlo con la dottoressa e vediamo se riesce a visitarla, visto che \u00e8 un’urgenza. Un minuto solo”<\/b>
\nSecretary: “As it’s an emergency I’ll talk to the (female<\/em>) doctor and see if she can take a look. Just a minute”<\/p>\n

La segretaria<\/b><\/b><\/b>\u00a0entra nello studio della dentista e dopo un paio di minuti ritorna: “Ha detto la dottoressa che la visiter\u00e0 quando ha finito con questo paziente. Si accomodi pure di l\u00e0, che la chiamo io”<\/b>
\nThe secretary enters the dentist’s studio and after a couple of minutes she comes back: “The doctor said that she will see you when she’s finished with this patient. Please, take a seat over there, I will call you”<\/p>\n

Geoff<\/b>\u00a0si siede nella piccola sala d’attesa dove c’\u00e8 un grande televisore che mostra immagini di qualche ridicolo reality show. Un’anziana signora commenta molto interessata lo spettacolo, mentre la nipote ventenne che l’accompagna <\/b>sprofonda nei cuscini del divano<\/b> <\/b>tutta<\/b> imbarazzata.<\/b> Ben presto tutti i presenti sono coinvolti in una discussione amichevole sulla qualit\u00e0 dei programmi televisivi di oggi.<\/b>
\nGeoff sits down in the small waiting room, where there’s a big TV showing some ridiculous reality show. An old lady who’s very interested in the show is commenting on it, whilst her granddaughter, who’s with her, is sliding down into the sofa cushions all embarrassed. Soon all those present are involved in a friendly discussion about the quality of today’s TV programs.<\/p>\n

Dopo una mezz’oretta la porta scorrevole si apre e appare <\/b>la segretaria<\/b>: “Signor Chamberlain? V<\/b>enga<\/b> pure, in fondo al corridoio a <\/b>sinistra<\/b>“<\/b>
\nAfter about half an hour the sliding door opens and the secretary appears: “Mister Chamberlain? Please come in, at the end of the corridor to the left”<\/p>\n

Manuela, la dentista: “<\/b>Ciao Geoff! C<\/b>he problema c’\u00e8?”<\/b>
\nManuela, the dentist, kissing Geoff on the cheek: “Hi Geoff! What’s the problem?”<\/p>\n

Geoff: “E’ da un paio di giorni che questo dente mi fa male quando mangio, e devo <\/b>masticare<\/b> sull’altro lato, ma stanotte mi ha fatto proprio male e ho pre<\/b>so<\/b> <\/b>degli antidolorifici”<\/b>
\nGeoff: “For the last couple of days this tooth has being hurting when I eat, and I have to chew on the other side, but last night it really hurt and I had to take some painkillers”<\/p>\n

Dentista: “Diamoci un’occhiata … quale dente \u00e8? Questo? Hmm, s\u00ec, mi sembra che ci sia una carie. Adesso ci facciamo una lastra”. Rivolgendosi all’assistente: “Puoi fargli una lastra al secondo molare superiore destro?”<\/strong>
\nDentist: “Let’ have a look … which tooth is it? This one? Hmm, yes, it looks like there’s some decay. Now we’ll X-ray it”. Addressing the assistant: “Can you make an X-Ray of the upper second molar on the right?”<\/p>\n

L’assistente incastra un aggeggio nella bocca di\u00a0Geoff<\/b> e dopo avergli raccomandato di stringere bene i denti e di non muoversi, esce per un momento.
\n<\/strong>The assistant lodges a gadget inside Geoff’s mouth and then, having asked to him to grip it with his teeth and not move, she goes out for a moment.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Geoff: “gawrgargawahwah”<\/strong>
\nGeoff: “gawrgargawahwah”<\/p>\n

L’assistente rientra, estrae l’oggetto dalla bocca di Geoff<\/b>, e lo collega ad uno Smart phone, sul cui schermo appare l’immagine del dente.<\/strong>
\nThe assistant comes back in, extract the object from the Geoff’s mouth, and connects it to a Smart phone, on the screen of which an image of the tooth appears.<\/p>\n

Geoff: “E allora?”<\/strong>
\nGeoff: “So?”<\/p>\n

Dentista: “S\u00ec, purtroppo la carie ha raggiunto le radici, bisogner\u00e0 devitalizzarle. Per oggi pulisco un po’ il dente, ci metto la medicina e faccio un’otturazione temporanea, poi fissiamo un appuntamento per la devitalizzazione delle radici, perch\u00e9 ci vorr\u00e0 pi\u00f9 di un’ora”<\/strong>
\nDentist: “Yes, unfortunately the decay has reached the roots, we’ll have to do a root canal treatment. For today I’ll clean the tooth up a bit, apply some medication and put in a temporary filling, then we’ll make an appointment for the root treatment, because it’ll take more than an hour”<\/p>\n

Geoff: “Oh che bello!”<\/strong>
\nGeoff: “Great!”<\/p>\n

Un quarto d’ora dopo: “Ecco fatto!” dice Manuela, “Mi raccomando, cerca di non mangiare da questo lato perch\u00e9 l’otturazione temporanea \u00e8 molto fragile. Ci vediamo la settimana prossima. Ciao!”<\/strong>
\nA quarter of an hour later: “That’s that done!” says Manuela, “Be careful, try not to eat on this side because the temporary filling is very fragile. I’ll see you next week. Bye!”<\/p>\n

Geoff: “Non vedo l’ora!”<\/strong>
