This is probably largely due to our rather \u2018generous\u2019 usage of vowels which enable <strong>scorrevolezza<\/strong> (fluency), well at least for us \u2018natives\u2019, students of Italian may disagree! Try this little\u00a0<strong>scioglilingua <\/strong>(tongue twister)\u00a0for example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>Sopra la panca la capra campa, sotto la panca la capra crepa<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">(Above the bench the goat lives, below the bench the goat dies)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Too easy? Try this one then.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>Trentatre\u2019 Trentini entrarono dentro Trento\u00a0tutti e trentatre\u2019\u00a0trotterellando<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Thirty three people from Trento entered into Trento all thirty three trotting along)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Hmmm, o.k.\u00a0you\u2019d better get yourself a refreshing glass of water, perhaps even have a lie down. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Now if you\u2019re feeling refreshed, and you\u2019ve realigned your tongue\u00a0are you <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">ready for another challenge? <strong>Dai, proviamoci!<\/strong> (Come on, let\u2019s try!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Due to\u00a0our \u2018superfluity\u2019 of vowels, the Italian language contains a number of\u00a0<strong>\u2018parole curiose\u2019<\/strong> (curious words). So here is your challenge in the form of a little quiz:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">1. Which is the shortest word in the Italian language that contains all five vowels (<strong>aeiou<\/strong>)? (clue: politicians are very good at doing\u00a0this whenever a proposal is made)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">4.\u00a0Name at least two Italian words that have five <strong>a\u2019<\/strong>s. (clue: one of these is potentially explosive, another may require an exorcist, yet another will be useful if you\u2019ve lost a dog)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">5. Which\u00a0word is considered to be the longest in\u00a0Italian? (clue: it has 26 letters and it happens very quickly!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">6. Which is the longest Italian word with no repeating letters?
