In my recent blog<\/span> Italian Articles Exercise<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> we looked at the correct usage of the Italian definite articles, il<\/strong>, lo<\/strong>, la<\/strong>, i<\/strong>, gli<\/strong>, and le <\/strong>(the<\/em>). Today we’ll extend that exercise by combining each of these six articles with the preposition ‘di<\/strong>‘ (of<\/em>).<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, let’s begin by examining how we go about creating these preposizioni articolate<\/strong> (preposition\/article combinations). This will be followed by an exercise that requires you to fill in the blanks. You’ll find the answers are hidden at the end of the blog.<\/p>\n

il<\/strong> = masculine singular, e.g. il fucile<\/strong>, il martello<\/strong>. Combined with ‘di<\/strong>‘ = del<\/strong><\/p>\n

lo<\/strong> = masculine singular, used before \u2018s<\/strong>\u2019 plus a consonant or \u2018z<\/strong>\u2019, e.g. lo scarpone<\/strong>, lo zaino<\/strong>. Combined with ‘di<\/strong>‘ = dello<\/strong> <\/i>N.B.<\/i> lo<\/i><\/strong> becomes<\/i> l\u2019 <\/i><\/strong>before a vowel, e.g.<\/i> l’albero<\/i><\/strong>. <\/i>Combined with<\/i> <\/i>‘<\/i>di<\/i><\/strong>‘ <\/i>=<\/i> dell’
\n<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

la<\/strong> = feminine singular, e.g. la scrivania<\/strong>, la ragazza<\/strong>. Combined with ‘di<\/strong>‘ = della<\/strong>.<\/i> N.B. la<\/strong> becomes l\u2019<\/strong> before a vowel, e.g. l’arancia<\/strong>. Combined with ‘di<\/strong>‘ = dell’<\/strong>
\n<\/i><\/p>\n
