Today we&#8217;ll extend that exercise by combining each of these six articles with the preposition &#8216;<strong>di<\/strong>&#8216; (<em>of<\/em>).<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Firstly, let&#8217;s begin by examining how we go about creating these <strong>preposizioni articolate<\/strong> (preposition\/article combinations). This will be followed by an exercise that requires you to fill in the blanks. You&#8217;ll find the answers are hidden at the end of the blog.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>il<\/strong> = masculine singular, e.g. <strong>il fucile<\/strong>,<strong> il martello<\/strong>. Combined with &#8216;<strong>di<\/strong>&#8216; = <strong>del<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>lo<\/strong> = masculine singular, used before \u2018<strong>s<\/strong>\u2019 plus a consonant or \u2018<strong>z<\/strong>\u2019, e.g.<strong> lo scarpone<\/strong>,<strong> lo zaino<\/strong>. <i>Combined with &#8216;<strong>di<\/strong>&#8216; = <strong>dello<\/strong> <\/i><i>N.B.<\/i><strong><i> lo<\/i><\/strong><i> becomes<\/i><strong><i> l\u2019 <\/i><\/strong><i>before a vowel, e.g.<\/i><strong><i> l&#8217;albero<\/i><\/strong><i>. <\/i><i>Combined with<\/i><i> <\/i><i>&#8216;<\/i><strong><i>di<\/i><\/strong><i>&#8216; <\/i><i>=<\/i><strong><i> dell&#8217;<br \/>\n<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>la<\/strong> = feminine singular, e.g. <strong>la scrivania<\/strong>, <strong>la ragazza<\/strong>. <i>Combined with &#8216;<strong>di<\/strong>&#8216; = <strong>della<\/strong>.<\/i> <i>N.B. <strong>la<\/strong> becomes <strong>l\u2019<\/strong> before a vowel, e.g. <strong>l&#8217;arancia<\/strong>.
