Well it certainly does if you don\u2019t know the vocabulary! In today\u2019s blog I\u2019m going to focus on talking about size in Italian, and putting size related vocabulary into useful everyday contexts.<\/span><\/p>\n

grande<\/b> plural<\/i> grandi<\/b> = great, big, large, tall (n.b. pi\u00f9 grande<\/b> can also mean ‘older’)
\nquanto \u00e8 grande la tua casa?<\/b> = how big is your house?<\/p>\n

piccolo<\/b>\/a\/ <\/b>plural<\/i> <\/b><\/i>i\/e<\/b> = small, short, little
\nla nostra casa \u00e8 abbastanza piccola<\/b> = our house is quite small<\/p>\n

enorme<\/b> plural<\/i> enormi<\/b> = enormous
\nPierangelo ha i piedi enormi!<\/b> =Pierangelo has enormous feet!<\/p>\n

minuscolo\/a\/ <\/b>plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = tiny
\nabbiamo trovato una micina minuscola<\/b> = we’ve found a tiny female kitten<\/p>\n

microscopico<\/b>\/ a <\/b>plural<\/i> <\/b>microscopic<\/b>i\/<\/b>microscopic<\/b>h<\/b>e<\/b> = microscopic
\nnon riesco ad avvitare queste viti microscopiche <\/b>= I can’t tighten these microscopic screws<\/p>\n

largo<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> larghi\/larghe<\/b> = wide
\nla tavola \u00e8 troppo larga … non ci sta!<\/b> = the plank is two wide … it doesn’t fit!<\/p>\n

stretto<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = narrow
\nabbiamo proseguito lungo un vicolo molto stretto<\/b> = we carried on along a very narrow alley<\/p>\n

spesso<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = thick
\nc’\u00e8 uno\u00a0spesso strato di cemento sotto il pavimento<\/b> = there’s a thick layer of cement under the floor<\/p>\n

grosso<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> <\/b>= big, fat
\nmamma mia quanto sono grosse quelle galline!<\/b> = wow, those chickens are so fat!<\/p>\n

sottile<\/b> plural<\/i> sottili<\/b> = thin
\nho avvolto il tubo di scarico con del nastro abbastanza sottile<\/b> = I wrapped some quite thin tape around the drainage pipe<\/p>\n

snello<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = slim
\n\u00e8 piuttosto snello<\/b> = he’s rather slim<\/p>\n

lungo<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> lunghi\/lunghe<\/b> = long
\nmi piace, ma ha le maniche un po’ lunghe<\/b> = I like it, but the sleeves are a bit long<\/p>\n

corto<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = short (length)
\nquesti pantaloni sono troppo corti<\/b> = these trousers are too short<\/p>\n

basso<\/b>\/a<\/b> plural i\/e<\/b> = short (height)
\nLucia \u00e8 pi\u00f9 bassa di Gaia<\/b> = Lucia is shorter than Gaia<\/p>\n

alto<\/b>\/a <\/b>plural<\/i> i\/e<\/b> = tall
\nla torre di Pisa \u00e8 alta 57 metri<\/b> = The tower of Pisa is 57 metres high<\/p>\n

Remember: many size related words can be modified with the suffixes -issimo<\/b>\/a\/i\/e<\/b>:<\/p>\n

la nostra casa \u00e8 piccol<\/b>issima<\/b> = our house is very small
\nabbiamo proseguito lungo un vicolo strett<\/b>issimo <\/b>= we carried on along a very narrow alley<\/p>\n
