Note how in the second example, the passive form puts emphasis on <strong>lo studente<\/strong> (the student)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">W<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">e also use the passive <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">form <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">when we don&#8217;t know who is responsible for an action<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">, e.g.\u00a0<strong>penso che mi abbiano rubato la macchina<\/strong> (I think that they&#8217;ve stolen my car), <em>vs<\/em> the passive form <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">penso che la macchina sia stata rubata<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">(I think that the car has been stolen)<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">In the above examples, the passive form is built with the verb <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">essere<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">(to be) followed by<\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">the past participle of the main verb.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>N.B. The past participle(s) must agree in gender and number<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>with the person who&#8217;s doing the action.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Now let&#8217;s take a look at an alternative construction of the passive form: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">in Italian the verb <strong>venire<\/strong> (to come) <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">is often used <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">instead of the verb <strong>essere<\/strong> (to be). See this blog: <span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/il-verbo-venire\/\" target=\"_blank\">VENIRE<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\">When do we use <strong>venire<\/strong> instead of <strong>essere<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><em>In the present, future, imperfect, and present subjunctive tenses <strong>essere<\/strong> and <strong>venire<\/strong> are interchangeable. However, t<span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">he verb <strong>venire<\/strong> cannot be used in the present perfect, pluperfect, and past subjunctive. Here are some examples:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;color: #0000ff\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">p<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">resente (present):<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">la pasta <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">viene\/\u00e8<\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">servita come primo piatto <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">= pasta is served as a first course<\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong>tutti gli anni per la festa del patrono le reliquie vengono\/sono esposte in chiesa<\/strong> = every year on patron saint&#8217;s day the relics are put on display in the church<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;color: #0000ff\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">futuro (future)<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>il sindaco ha ordinato che la piazza venga\/sia chiusa al traffico per la processione<\/strong> = the mayor ordered that the square be closed to traffic for the procession<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">voglio che il lavoro <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">venga\/sia<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"> finito prima di sera <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span
