I listen to a lot of music, but very little of it is Italian. Unfortunately, I struggle to find Italian contemporary music that inspires me. Italy is a goldmine of art and creativity that belongs to the past, and let’s face it, that’s exactly what inspires so many tourists to visit this beautiful peninsula.<\/span><\/p>\n

But that very emphasis on past glories, combined with the very conservative nature of Italian culture, tends to be very detrimental to artistic innovation. Hence, new music that doesn’t fit the simplistic love and heartbreak genre (in Italian we say: amore fa rima con cuore<\/strong>) struggles to get off the ground.<\/p>\n

In fact, my favourite Italian metal band, Lacuna Coil<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, have long ago emigrated to America, and perform nearly all of their songs in English. As so many young Italian artists have found, they simply couldn’t make a living in their patria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But there are a few Italian artists that I really love, and my number one is the stupendous singer Giorgia<\/strong>. So I was really excited when her new song Vanit\u00e0<\/strong> appeared on youtube’s GiorgiaVevo<\/a><\/strong><\/span> a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n

Georgia\u2019s passionate style and fantastic vocal range could make the most banal of songs interesting. But Vanit\u00e0<\/strong> is far from banal, mi fa venire i brividi!<\/strong><\/p>\n
