The Italian word primavera<\/strong> has interesting and ancient origins. It’s composed of the two terms: ‘prima<\/strong>‘ (before, or first) and ‘vera<\/strong>‘, which has its roots in the sanscrit word vas<\/em><\/strong>-, meaning ‘ardere<\/strong>‘ (to burn) or ‘splendere<\/strong>‘ (to shine), and by extension also ‘l’estate<\/strong>‘ (the summer). ‘Prima-vera<\/strong>‘ therefore is ‘la stagione prima dell’estate<\/strong>‘ (the season before the summer).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Here’s a poem by Ada Negri<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> (3 February 1870\u00a0\u2013 11 January 1945<\/em>) that’s just perfect for la<\/strong> primavera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
