Anche lei, come tutti i nostri mici, \u00e8 una randagia del paese, che ha contribuito molto alla sopravvivenza della sua razza. Ora che non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 giovanissima (pensiamo che abbia 7 o 8 anni), \u00e8 giunto il momento che vada in pensione, e cos\u00ec \u00e8 venuta a stare nella casa di riposo di Geoff e Serena.<\/strong><br \/>\nNina is a very sweet cat with beautiful eyes. Like all our cats, she&#8217;s a village stray who has contributed a lot to the survival of her species. Here&#8217;s the Frankencat when she&#8217;d just got home again.<br \/><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ma andiamo per gradi &#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nBut let&#8217;s take it step by step &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Come ho gi\u00e0 detto, Nina \u00e8 una gatta del luogo che abbiamo visto in giro per il paese per tanti anni, sempre affamata, ogni primavera accompagnata da almeno un gattino. Ha il pelo medio-lungo bianco e nero e due bellissimi occhi color ambra.<\/strong><br \/>\nAs I&#8217;ve already said, Nina is a local cat that we&#8217;ve seen around the village for many years, always hungry, and accompanied each spring by at least one kitten. She has medium length black and white fur and two beautiful amber coloured eyes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Un paio di mesi fa abbiamo notato che aveva un orecchio tutto graffiato, spesso sanguinante. Memori dello spettacolo penoso a cui avevamo assistito i primi tempi che eravamo qui in paese, quando c&#8217;erano stati un paio di gatti con le orecchie malate e non curate, abbiamo deciso di acchiappare Nina e medicarla.<\/strong><br \/>\nA couple of months ago we noticed that one of her ears was all scratched and often bleeding. Remembering the painful sight we had witnessed during our early days in the village, when there were a couple of cats with diseased and untreated ears, we decided to catch Nina and treat her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Prenderla \u00e8 stato pi\u00f9 facile del previsto, non solo perch\u00e9 era affamata e perci\u00f2 ben felice di avere croccantini e latte, ma anche perch\u00e9 non ha paura delle coccole, anzi! Appena l&#8217;abbiamo presa in braccio abbiamo notato che era leggera come una piuma, le si sentivano tutte le costole, ed era piena di zecche.<\/strong><br \/>\nCatching her was easier than expected, not only because she was hungry and therefore very happy to be given cat biscuits and milk, but also because she&#8217;s not afraid of cuddles, quite the opposite! Nina two weeks ago.<br \/><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dopo un paio di settimane di cure non c&#8217;era nessun miglioramento visibile, a parte il fatto che non le si sentivano pi\u00f9 le costole, per cui l&#8217;abbiamo portata dal veterinario. Il verdetto \u00e8 stato inaspettato e impietoso: tumore a tutte e due le orecchie! Non c&#8217;era altra scelta che operarla, e gi\u00e0 che c&#8217;eravamo l&#8217;abbiamo fatta sterilizzare, tutto compreso nel prezzo!<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter a couple of weeks of treatment she showed no sign of improvement, apart from the fact that you couldn&#8217;t feel her ribs any more, so we took her to the vet. The verdict was cruel and unexpected: tumours on both ears! There was no choice but to have her operated on, and while we were at it we had her sterilized as well, all included in the price!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Quando siamo andati a riprenderla dopo l&#8217;operazione, abbiamo ricevuto uno shock! Tutta spaventata, con la testa rasata, senza le orecchie, i punti che le uscivano dai monconi, senza vibrisse, la pancia e le zampe anteriori rasate. Per di pi\u00f9 il veterinario ci ha confessato di aver sbagliato e di aver scaldato troppo il bisturi elettrico, ustionandole l&#8217;orecchio sinistro e il naso, e per questo motivo le aveva dovuto tagliare le vibrisse.<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen we went to pick her up after the operation we had a shock! She was very scared, with her head shaven, no ears, stitches sticking out of the stumps, without whiskers, and with her tummy and front legs shaven. What&#8217;s more the vet confessed to us that he&#8217;d made a mistake and had overheated the electric scalpel, burning her left ear and her nose, which is why he&#8217;d had to cut her whiskers off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Povera Nina, pi\u00f9 che un gatto sembrava la versione felina di Frankenstein! A quella vista Geoff ha commentato: &#8220;Ma come, ti avevamo portato una gatta e ci ridai un chihuahua!&#8221;, e l&#8217;ha soprannominata &#8220;la Gatta Modificata&#8221;. Tornata a casa, i primi giorni Nina era tutta disorientata. Senza i padiglioni auricolari e senza le vibrisse non aveva pi\u00f9 il senso della distanza, per cui non faceva altro che sbattere la testa da tutte le parti.<\/strong><br \/>\nPoor Nina, she looked more like the feline version of Frankenstein than a cat! When he saw her, Geoff commented: &#8220;How come, we brought you a cat and you&#8217;ve given us back a chihuahua!&#8221;, and he nicknamed her &#8220;The Modified Cat&#8221;. Back home again Nina was completely disorientated for the first few days. Nina today.<br \/><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dopo oltre un mese di medicazioni e parecchie visite di controllo, ora Nina \u00e8 perfettamente guarita: le vibrisse stanno ricrescendo, cos\u00ec come il pelo sulla testa e le zampe, le orecchie sono cicatrizzate, anche se ovviamente non ricresceranno, e ha messo su un po&#8217; di peso. Ha anche imparato ad usare la lettiera, ma spesso ha problemi a &#8220;centrare il bersaglio&#8221;! Si sta perfettamente integrando con il resto della famiglia e delle volte gioca con Ambra e Mr.Black, e la sera guarda i film in grembo a Geoff.<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter over a month of treatment and several check-ups, Nina has now made a full recovery: her whiskers are growing back, as is the fur on her head and legs, her ears are healed, although they obviously won&#8217;t grow back, and she&#8217;s put a bit of weight on. She&#8217;s also learned to use the litter tray, but she often has problems &#8220;hitting the target&#8221;!
