Nowadays, it&#8217;s a popular Italian antipasto, the &#8216;nibble&#8217; of choice to go with one&#8217;s <strong>aperitivo<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The generic name <strong>bruschetta<\/strong> comes from the now redundant verb <strong>bruscare<\/strong>, meaning &#8216;to toast&#8217;. Every region has its own variation: in Calabria there&#8217;s<strong> la fedda ruscia <\/strong>(the toasted slice), in Toscana <strong>la fett&#8217;unta<\/strong> (the greasy slice) or <strong>panunto <\/strong>(greasy bread), in Piemonte <strong>la soma d&#8217;aj <\/strong>(the load of garlic), to mention just a few.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12961\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/100_6937.jpg\" aria-label=\"100 6937\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12961\" class=\"wp-image-12961 size-full\"  alt=\"Geoff harvesting olives by hand. Let&#8217;s have a look at a basic bruschetta recipe:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Ingredients for 4 people:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n8 slices of old home made bread about 1 cm thick; 2 cloves of garlic, peeled; high quality extra virgin olive oil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Preparation:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nToast the bread on a barbecue if possible, but otherwise under a grill, or in the oven. The bread should be golden and crusty outside, but soft inside. While the bread is still warm, vigorously rub one side with the peeled garlic, using about one quarter of a clove per slice, and sprinkle with the extra virgin olive oil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Variations:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This basic recipe can be varied ad infinitum, simply add your favourite herbs (<em><strong>origano e basilico sono le mie!<\/strong><\/em>), or other ingredients on top. A classic summer variation involves the use of fresh tomatoes chopped into little cubes and flavoured with fresh basil, all sprinkled with salt and extra virgin olive oil.
