If you look in the dictionary you&#8217;ll find the explanation that it is a combination of the verb <strong>pensare<\/strong> (to think) and <strong>ci<\/strong> (which in this case means &#8216;about it\/of it&#8217;). But there&#8217;s another meaning to <strong>pensarci<\/strong> that&#8217;s not so easy to decipher &#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s begin with the easy meaning: <strong>pensarci<\/strong> = to think about\/of it.<br \/>\nThe following examples will illustrate how we use it:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dovevo portare l&#8217;ombrello, ma non ci ho pensato<\/strong> = I should have brought the umbrella but I didn&#8217;t think of it.<br \/>\n<strong>Se fossi in te ci penserei due volte prima di comprarlo<\/strong> = if I were you I&#8217;d think twice before buying it<br \/>\n<strong>Ogni volta che ci penso mi fa venire i brividi<\/strong> = every time I think about it it gives me the shivers<br \/>\n<strong>Laura mi ha detto che ci pensa molto spesso<\/strong> = Laura told me that she thinks about it very often<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now for the second, less easily defined meaning: <strong>pensarci<\/strong> = to sort it out\/take care of it.<br \/>\nOnce again, here are some practical examples:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Non ti preoccupare, ci penso io<\/strong> = don&#8217;t worry, I&#8217;ll sort it out<br \/>\n<strong>Ci pensi tu a parcheggiare la macchina?<\/strong> = will you take care of parking the car? (or simply &#8216;will you park the car?&#8217;)<br \/>\n<strong>Chi ha pulito la stanza? Ci ha pensato Antonio<\/strong> = Who cleaned the room? Her: Yes please, and put it on the armchair, I&#8217;ll fold it. (I&#8217;ll take care of folding it)<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Notice that when we use <strong>pensarci<\/strong> with the meaning of &#8216;to sort it out&#8217; we also state <span style=\"color: #800080;\">the person who carries out the action<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ci penso <span style=\"color: #800080;\">io<\/span><\/strong> = I&#8217;ll sort it out\/take care of it<br \/>\n<strong>ci pensi <span style=\"color: #800080;\">tu<\/span><\/strong> = you&#8217;ll sort it out &#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>ci pensa <span style=\"color: #800080;\">lui\/lei<\/span><\/strong> = he\/she will sort it out &#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>ci pensiamo <span style=\"color: #800080;\">noi<\/span><\/strong> = we&#8217;ll sort it out &#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>ci pensate <span style=\"color: #800080;\">voi<\/span><\/strong> = you&#8217;ll sort it out (plural) &#8230;<br \/>\n<strong>ci pensano <span style=\"color: #800080;\">loro<\/span><\/strong> = they&#8217;ll sort it out &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, let&#8217;s take a look at a paragraph from Serena&#8217;s recent blog <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/nella-piazza-del-paese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nella Piazza Del Paese<\/span><\/strong><\/a> which caused a bit of confusion:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>mentre a portare un po\u2019 di sollievo dal caldo <em>ci pensa l\u2019Ape Car<\/em> trasformata in gelateria!<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A literal translation of this line would give us: &#8220;while to bring a bit of relief from the heat, the Ape Car transformed into an ice cream shop will sort it out&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And here&#8217;s my translation from the same blog:\u00a0 &#8220;<span lang=\"en-GB\">while the Ape Car turned into an ice cream shop brings a bit of relief from the heat!<\/span>&#8221; This demonstrates that it is not always necessary to translate <strong>pensarci<\/strong> literally as it is implicit within the context and can therefore be omitted in the English version.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Alla Prossima!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"261\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/08\/bucato-261x350.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/08\/bucato-261x350.jpg 261w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/08\/bucato.jpg 339w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 261px) 100vw, 261px\" \/><p>Pensarci can be confusing.
