Not long ago, Geoff was chatting with a couple of friends in the bar about the imminent arrival of winter and how to pass the time, “perch\u00e9 qua a Pontremoli, non succede un cavolo di niente!”<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

We need to keep our brains alive somehow, said Geoff … how about we organise una gita culturale<\/strong> (a cultural trip) to somewhere interesting?<\/p>\n

The trip was planned, and duly took place … our brains were duly stimulated. Our freshly stimulated brains concocted the idea of a series of three blogs based around our gita<\/strong>: 1. before, 2. during and 3. after.<\/p>\n

Part One – The Idea Takes Shape<\/span><\/p>\n

Un gruppo di amici si ritrova al solito bar e, fra un cappuccino e una pasta, fanno due chiacchiere.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nA group of friends meets up at their usual bar and chat whilst they’re having a cappuccino and a pastry.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Geoff: Che avete fatto di bello questo fine settimana?<\/strong>
\nGeoff: Did you do anything nice last week end?<\/p>\n

Iolanda: Sabato scorso sono andata a Parma per incontrare degli amici. Ci vado spesso ma non sono ancora riuscita a visitare il Duomo di Parma, pensa un po’!<\/b>
\nIolanda: Last Saturday I went to Parma to meet some friends. I go there often but I’ve never managed to visit the Cathedral, can you believe it?<\/p>\n

Geoff: No?! e il Teatro Farnese l’hai mai visto?<\/b>
\nGeoff: Really?! and what about the Teatro Farnese, have you ever seen it?<\/p>\n

Iolanda: Il Teatro Farnese? No<\/b>.<\/b>
\nIolanda: The Teatro Farnese? No.<\/p>\n

Geoff: <\/b>Che vergogna! <\/b>A Parma c’\u00e8 anche una farmacia antica molto bella … come si chiama, Serena?<\/b>
\nGeoff: What a shame! There’s also a beautiful old pharmacy in Parma … what’s it called, Serena?<\/p>\n

Serena: L’Antica Spezieria. E’ interessantissima. E poi c’\u00e8 il museo dei burattini \u2026<\/b>
\nSerena: The Antica Spezieria. It’s really interesting. And there’s also the puppet museum ….<\/p>\n

Geoff: S\u00ec, il museo dei burattini \u00e8 fantastico <\/b>… sapete, i burattini tipo Punch and Judy.<\/b>
\nGeoff: Yes, the puppet museum is fantastic … you know, puppets like Punch and Judy.<\/p>\n

Anthony: Davvero? a me sono sempre piaciuti i burattini, vado matto per Punch and Judy<\/b>!<\/b>
\nAnthony: Really? I’ve always liked puppets, I’m crazy about Punch and Judy!<\/p>\n

Iolanda: Gi\u00e0, \u00e8 vero, lui \u00e8 bravissimo con i burattini!<\/strong>
\nIolanda: Yes, it’s true, he’s really good with puppets!<\/p>\n

Serena: Lo sapete che Punch and Judy <\/b>vengono<\/b> dalla maschera napoletana Pulcinella?<\/b>
\nSerena: Did you know that Punch and Judy come from the Neapolitan character Pulcinella?<\/p>\n

Iolanda fa immediatamente una ricerca sul suo iPad e trova tutta la storia di Pulcinella e Punch and Judy sull’internet.<\/b>
\nIolanda immediately does a search on her iPad and finds the whole history of Pulcinella and Punch and Judy on the internet.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Geoff: Bisogna assolutamente rimediare! E se organizzassimo una gita culturale a Parma?<\/b>
\nGeoff: We’ll definitely have to sort that out! How about we organize a cultural trip to Parma?<\/p>\n

Iolanda e Anthony: Benissimo!<\/b>
\nIolanda and Anthony: Great!<\/p>\n

Iolanda: Andiamo in treno? <\/b>E’<\/b> molto comodo<\/b>, la stazione \u00e8 vicina al centro, e <\/b>costa <\/b>solo<\/b> 15 euro andata e ritorno.<\/b> <\/b>
\nIolanda: Shall we go by train? It’s really handy, the station is close to the centre, and it only costs 15 Euros return.<\/p>\n

Geoff: Siamo in quattro, non vale la pena andarci in <\/b>treno<\/b>.<\/b> Andiamo con la mia macchina che va a GPL, per cui costa poco. Divideremo il costo dell’autostrada.<\/b>
\nGeoff: There are four of us, it’s not worth going by train. Let’s take my car, it runs on LPG so it’s cheap. We’ll share the cost of the motorway.<\/p>\n

Serena: Poi ci sar\u00e0 da trovare il parcheggio. <\/b>
\nSerena: And we’ll have to find somewhere to park.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Geoff: C’\u00e8 quel parcheggio sotterraneo dove siamo andati quella volta.<\/b> Potremo andare l\u00e0. E’ proprio in centro.<\/b>
\nGeoff: There’s that underground car park where we went that time. We could go there. It’s right in the centre.<\/p>\n

Iolanda: S\u00ec, anche <\/b>se <\/b>costasse 15 euro<\/b> per tutto il giorno<\/b>, v<\/b>err\u00e0<\/b> meno di 4 euro a <\/b>testa<\/b>.<\/b>
\nIolanda: Yes, even if it cost 15 Euros for the whole day, it will be less than 4 Euros each.<\/p>\n

Anthony: Allora, quando andiamo a Parma?<\/b>
\nAnthony: So, when are we going to Parma?<\/p>\n

Serena: Siete liberi venerd\u00ec della settimana prossima?<\/b>
\nSerena: Are you free on Friday of next week?<\/p>\n

Iolanda: Per me va bene<\/b>.<\/b>
\nIolanda: That’s fine with me.<\/p>\n

Anthony: Anche per me<\/b>.<\/b>
\nAnthony: Me too.<\/p>\n

Geoff: Allora facciamo venerd\u00ec della settimana prossima. Per che ora partiamo? <\/b>O<\/b>tto e mezza?<\/b>
\nGeoff: So let’s say Friday of next week. What time shall we leave? Half past eight?<\/p>\n

Anthony: Facciamo le nove?<\/b><\/b>
\nAnthony: Can we do nine o’ clock?<\/p>\n

Geoff: Ok, le nove. Non pi\u00f9 tardi.<\/b>
\nGeoff: Ok, nine. No later.<\/p>\n

Anthony e Iolanda: D’accordo, facciamo alle nove<\/b>.<\/b> <\/b>
\nAnthony and Iolanda: OK, let’s say nine o’clock.<\/p>\n

Geoff: Dove c’incontriamo, davanti alla Stazione? E’ abbastanza centrale, no?<\/b>
\nGeoff: Where shall we meet, in front of the Railway Station? It’s pretty central, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

Anthony e Iolanda: Perfetto<\/b>
\nAnthony and Iolanda: Perfect<\/p>\n

Geoff: Va bene, pass<\/b>iamo<\/b> a prendervi venerd\u00ec alle nove davanti alla stazione.<\/b>
\nGeoff: OK, we’ll come and pick you up in front of the Railway Station on Friday at nine.<\/p>\n
