Here, as promised, is our English translation of Serena’s blog La Fuggitiva<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Qualche anno fa, quando ancora abitavamo in Inghilterra, mio marito Geoff mi chiese di fargli una mascherina copri occhi, perch\u00e9 la luce che entrava dalla finestra al mattino presto lo svegliava. Cos\u00ec mi misi all’opera.<\/b>
\nSome years ago, when we were still living in England, my husband Geoff asked me to make him an eye mask, because the light coming through the window early in the morning woke him up. So I got to work.<\/p>\n

Usando come modello un copri occhi da viaggio che mi aveva dato mia zia, ne feci una un po’ pi\u00f9 grande. Geoff fu molto contento del risultato, e cos\u00ec decisi di farmene una anche per me un pochino pi\u00f9 piccola. Tutto bene se non fosse che, presa dall’abitudine sartoriale, decisi di provare la mascherina per … vedere come mi stava! Geoff entr\u00f2 nella stanza proprio nel momento in cui cercavo di guardarmi allo specchio con la mascherina sugli occhi! Dopo pi\u00f9 di 10 anni ancora gli ritorna in mente quella scena e scoppia a ridere all’improvviso.<\/b>
\nUsing a travelling eye mask that my aunt had given me as a model, I made a slightly larger one. Geoff was really happy with the result, so I decided to make a slightly smaller one for myself. Fine, except that, compelled by my dressmaking habits, I decided to try the mask on to … see how it suited me! Geoff came into the room just as I was trying to see myself in the mirror with the mask on my eyes! More than 10 years later he still remembers that scene and suddenly bursts into a laughter.<\/p>\n

Ma torniamo alla mascherina di Geoff. Qui in Italia abbiamo gli scuri alle finestre, per cui la luce non entra al mattino presto, ma spesso Geoff usa la mascherina quando schiaccia la sua pennichella pomeridiana, in modo da non dover chiudere gli scuri.<\/b>
\nLet’s get back to Geoff’s mask. Here in Italy we have shutters on the windows, so the light doesn’t come in early in the morning, however Geoff often uses his mask when he’s having his afternoon nap, in order not to close the shutters.<\/p>\n

Pressappoco un anno fa la mascherina copri occhi di Geoff scomparve di punto in bianco. “Hai visto la mia mascherina?”, mi chiese Geoff, “Non riesco a trovarla”. “Hai guardato sotto al letto?”, gli suggerii. “S\u00ec” … “E dentro al cassetto sotto al letto?” … “S\u00ec” … “Dar\u00f2 un’occhiata nel cesto della biancheria sporca”. Ma niente, cerca e cerca, la mascherina non si trov\u00f2 da nessuna parte.<\/b>
\nAround a year ago Geoff’s eye mask suddenly disappeared. “Have you seen my mask?”, asked Geoff, “I can’t find it”. “Have you looked under the bed?”, I suggested. “Yes” … “And inside the draw underneath the bed?” … “Yes” … “I’ll have a look in the laundry basket”. Nothing, we searched everywhere, but the mask was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n

Pi\u00f9 o meno una settimana dopo, mentre eravamo a met\u00e0 strada della nostra abituale passeggiata pomeridiana nel circondario, notammo una strana creatura schiacciata sulla strada. “Che animale sar\u00e0 mai?” ci chiedemmo. Quando fummo un po’ pi\u00f9 vicini notammo che aveva degli strani colori: blu, verde e rosso!<\/b>
\nMore or less one week later, while we were half way round our usual afternoon walk in the neighbourhood, we noticed a strange creature squashed on the road. “What sort of animal could that be?” we asked ourselves. When we got a bit closer we noticed that it was strangely coloured: blue, green and red!<\/p>\n

“Ma io quest’animale lo conosco!” esclamai sorpresa. “Ma come ha fatto ad arrivare fin qui?” chiese Geoff meravigliato. Era lei, la mascherina copri occhi di Geoff, che giaceva sulla strada ad oltre due chilometri da casa, tutta sporca e un po’ strapazzata, ma per il resto indenne.<\/b>
\n“I know this animal!” I exclaimed surprised. “How did it manage to get here?” asked Geoff in disbelief. There it was, Geoff’s eye mask, lying on the road more than two kilometres from home, all dirty and a bit beaten up, but apart from that fine.<\/p>\n

L’abbiamo riportata a casa, lavata e rammendata, ma da allora non ha perso il vizio di fuggire. Si nasconde dentro al cappuccio della felpa di Geoff, e poi la ritroviamo gi\u00f9 in cucina, o che penzola dal cappuccio della felpa mentre stiamo passeggiando.<\/b>
\nWe brought it back home, washed and mended it, but since then it hasn’t lost the habit of running away. It hides inside the hood of Geoff ‘s sweatshirt, and then we find it down in the kitchen, or dangling from his sweatshirt hood while we’re out walking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
