These types of description are called <strong>comparativi di uguaglianza<\/strong> (comparison of equals), and are relatively simple to use.<br \/>\nWe construct <strong>comparativi di uguaglianza <\/strong>by using either <strong>come<\/strong> or <strong>quanto<\/strong>. These two are interchangeable and which you use is a matter of personal preference:<br \/>\n<strong>La nostra casa \u00e8 grande <span style=\"color: #800080\">come\/quanto<\/span> quella di Marco<\/strong> = Our house is as big as Marco&#8217;s<br \/>\n<strong>La mia macchina \u00e8 veloce <span style=\"color: #800080\">come\/quanto<\/span> quella di Cinzia<\/strong> = My car is as fast a Cinzia&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sometimes we use <strong>tanto\/i\/a\/e<\/strong> (as much\/as many) with <strong>quanto<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>Mario ha bevuto <span style=\"color: #800080\">tanta<\/span> birra <span style=\"color: #800080\">quanto<\/span> Paolo<\/strong> = Mario has drunk as much beer as Paolo<br \/>\n<strong>Pietro ha fatto <span style=\"color: #800080\">tanto<\/span> lavoro <span style=\"color: #800080\">quanto<\/span> Fabio<\/strong> = Pietro has done as much work as Fabio<br \/>\n<strong>C&#8217;erano <span style=\"color: #800080\">tante<\/span> ragazze <span style=\"color: #800080\">quanti<\/span> ragazzi<\/strong> = There were as many girls as boys<br \/>\nN.B. <strong>tanto<\/strong> and <strong>quanto<\/strong> must agree in number and gender with the thing that they describe, hence <strong>tant<span style=\"color: #800080\">e<\/span> ragazz<span style=\"color: #800080\">e<\/span><\/strong> &#8230; <strong>quant<span style=\"color: #800080\">i<\/span> ragazz<span style=\"color: #800080\">i<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">We can also use <strong>cos\u00ec<\/strong> with <strong>come<\/strong>, however, in this case <strong>cos\u00ec<\/strong> is optional:<br \/>\n<strong>Noemi \u00e8 <span style=\"color: #800080\">cos\u00ec<\/span> alta <span style=\"color: #800080\">come<\/span> Maria<\/strong> = Noemi is as tall as Maria<br \/>\nor, <strong>Noemi \u00e8 alta <span style=\"color: #800080\">come<\/span> Maria<\/strong> = Noemi is as tall as Maria<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Allora<\/strong>, let&#8217;s move on to the exercise. It&#8217;s longer than it is wide, and also serves as a corridor.
