But not so. Why? Because almost all romantic Italian songs and poems seem to be written for a tragic lost lov<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">e.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Now, Geoff and I have been happy together for twenty four years (well, we&#8217;ve almost killed each other a few times!), so I&#8217;m not interested in getting all soppy about some silly old teenage romance or, even worse, a weepy requiem for a dead lover! I want something that celebrates an existing love.<br \/>\nSo, what do I do? Well, as it&#8217;s often the case, &#8216;chance&#8217; comes to my aid. Recently, when I was sorting out my mother&#8217;s apartment, I found some old documents which, to me, are far more romantic than made up poems and songs. Here&#8217;s the story of two lovely compositions written by my father to my mother.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sono le otto del mattino del 3 maggio 1979, ventunesimo anniversario di matrimonio dei miei genitori. Abitiamo a San Lorenzo a Vaccoli, vicino a Lucca, ma pap\u00e0 non c&#8217;\u00e8 perch\u00e9 \u00e8 dovuto rientrare a Bengasi (Libia) per lavoro.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Suona il telefono. Mia mamma va a rispondere: &#8220;Pronto?&#8221;. All&#8217;altro capo del telefono c&#8217;\u00e8 una voce di donna tutta commossa: &#8220;Pronto, signora Cricorian? La chiamo dall&#8217;ufficio postale di Lucca, c&#8217;\u00e8 un telegramma per lei. E&#8217; un telegramma di auguri da parte di suo marito. E&#8217; bellissimo! Tuo Nicola<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8230; Com&#8217;\u00e8 fortunata ad avere un marito cos\u00ec!&#8221; conclude l&#8217;impiegata dell&#8217;ufficio postale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Un paio d&#8217;ore pi\u00f9 tardi, mentre la mamma \u00e8 in cucina a preparare il pranzo, suona il campanello.
