Thirty Eight Left … that’s her name. I guess that if you saw us together you’d maybe think us a mismatch. Me: rugged, practical; her: light, delicate almost. But she’s not one of those showy types with sequins and high heels. She also has a practical nature, although I doubt we’ll be hiking in the mountains together.<\/p>\n

Trentotto Sinistra … \u00e8 cos\u00ec che si chiama. Immagino che se ci vedeste insieme probabilmente pensereste che siamo un abbinamento sbagliato. Io: duro, pratico; lei: leggera, pressoch\u00e9 delicata. Ma non \u00e8 una di quei tipi appariscenti con strass e tacchi alti. Pale blue, with flyaway laces, she keeps cool even on the hottest of days. She’s of Eastern European extraction, Czech I believe, from a good traditional family, and when she’s not caring for Serena’s left foot she sleeps on the shelf above mine.<\/p>\n

Serena is the name of Geoff’s wife, and Geoff is the owner of the right foot which it’s my job to protect. My brother thinks that she isn’t my type, 38L that is, not Serena. But he’s more frivolous than me. I’m the strong one, slightly bigger than Lefty (my pet name for my 46L), who tends to follow in my footsteps … so to speak. He’s always lingering behind when we’re in town, eyeing up the ‘heels’, as he calls them.<\/p>\n

Admittedly, I hadn’t had much contact with female foot-ware before I came to live here. I was either asleep in my box, or on display with the other boots in the men’s section of the market stall. Sometimes I’d glance across to the other end of the stall where women would come and spend hours trying on everything in sight, whilst their male companions huffed and puffed impatiently, or, if they were older, with more experience under their belt, stood resignedly in the background, sometimes eyeing up a few younger ‘heels’ themselves.<\/p>\n

Devo ammettere che non avevo avuto molti contatti con calzature femminili prima di venire a vivere qui. Ero sempre o a dormire nella mia scatola o in mostra con gli altri scarponi nella sezione maschile del banco del mercato.
