\nLieutenant Ciceri knocks at the door of cell 3 anxiously. In his hand he has a report which he’s just received from Bari police HQ.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Avanti!” gli risponde dall’interno la voce burbera dell’Ispettore Augusto.
\n“Enter!” comes Augusto’s gruff reply from within.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Aveva ragione lei, Ispettore … guardi qui questo rapporto della questura di Bari!” dice Ciceri con soddisfazione, “Ecco, senta: a Bari ci sono stati tre casi di corpi fatti a pezzi e su tutte e tre le scene del delitto sono state trovate parti di bambole. Tutti rimasti insoluti!”
\n“You were right Inspector … look at this report from Bari police HQ!” says Ciceri with satisfaction, “Right, listen: in Bari there have been three cases of corpses that have been cut up, and doll parts have been found at all three crime scenes. All unsolved!”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Quando sono avvenuti questi casi?” chiede Augusto con estremo interesse.
\n“When did these cases happen?” asks Augusto with extreme interest.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Il primo risale a tre anni fa, mentre gli altri due sono di due anni fa.”
\n“The first goes back to three years ago, whilst the other two are from two years ago.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Molto, molto interessante!”, esclama l’Ispettore Augusto mettendosi a sedere ben dritto. “Si faccia subito mandare i fascicoli completi dei tre casi e le parti di bambola. Appena ricevute, le porti al laboratorio e le faccia comparare con quelle …”, squilla il telefono, disturbando la conversazione.
\n“Very very interesting!” exclaims Inspector Augusto, sitting up straight. “Have the complete files and the doll parts from all three cases sent over straight away. As soon as you receive them take them to the lab and have them compared with those …”, the telephone rings, interrupting the conversation.<\/em><\/p>\n

Augusto alza la cornetta con fare spazientito, perch\u00e9 non gli piace essere disturbato mentre sta dando ordini. “Pronto!” esclama non nascondendo il suo malcontento. Dall’altro capo del telefono c’\u00e8 il centralinista: “Ispettore, in linea c’\u00e8 una ragazza che chiama dalla Puglia. Ha visto l’articolo sul giornale e ha qualcosa di interessante da riferire, sembra. Gliela passo.”
\nAugusto lifts the receiver impatiently, he doesn’t like being disturbed whilst he’s giving orders. “Yes!” he exclaims, without hiding his displeasure. On the other end of the line is the switchboard operator<\/span><\/span>: “Inspector, there’s a girl calling from Puglia on the line. She saw the article in the newspaper and it seems that she has something interesting to report. I’ll pass you over to her.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Una voce femminile con un accento marcatamente pugliese attacca a parlare in modo concitato: “Ecco … io … non so … il fatto \u00e8 che l’articolo mi ha ricordato un fatto di qualche anno fa … ecco, s\u00ec … quando ero all’universit\u00e0 c’era una ragazza … un tipo strano, drammatico … non so come spiegare … in camera aveva una collezione di bambole, ma erano tutte a pezzi, smembrate.”
\nA female voice with a decidedly Pugliese accent begins to talk excitedly: “Well … I … I don’t know … the fact is that the article reminded me of something from a few years ago … well, yes … when I was at university there was a girl … a strange type, dramatic … I don’t know how to explain … in her room she had a collection of dolls, but they were all in pieces, dismembered.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Mi racconti tutto per filo e per segno, con calma” la incoraggia l’Ispettore Augusto, “In che citt\u00e0 ha fatto l’universit\u00e0 e quando?”
\n“Tell me everything\u00a0calmly and in detail” Inspector Augusto encourages her, “In which town did you go to university, and when?”<\/em><\/p>\n

“A Bari, ho finito l’anno scorso”
\n“In Bari, I finished last year”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Sa il perch\u00e9 di quelle bambole?” chiede sempre pi\u00f9 interessato Augusto.
\n“Do you know the reason for those dolls?” asks Augusto with increasing interest.<\/em><\/p>\n

“No, nessuno sapeva il perch\u00e9, ma si diceva che fosse ossessionata dagli incidenti gravi e omicidi … mi faceva venire i brividi quando mi capitava di essere con lei” spiega la giovane pugliese.
\n“No, nobody knew why, but they said that she was obsessed by serious accidents and homicides … she gave me the shivers whenever I happened to be with her” explains the young Pugliese.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Sa dirmi come si chiama questa sua compagna d’universit\u00e0?” chiede speranzoso Augusto.
\n“Can you tell me the name of this university companion of yours?” Augusto asks hopefully.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

“Si chiamava Gisella, ma il cognome non me lo ricordo, noi l’avevamo soprannominata ‘Quella delle Bambole’. Mi sembra che venisse da Bitonto. Studiava medicina e voleva diventare chirurgo, si impegnava molto negli studi. Da quando ho finito l’universit\u00e0 non l’ho pi\u00f9 rivista, non so che fine abbia fatto”, dice in tono di scusa la ragazza.
\n“She was called Gisella, but I don’t remember her surname, we gave her the nickname ‘Doll Girl’. I think she came from Bitonto. She studied medicine and wanted to become a surgeon, she was very committed to her studies. I haven’t seen her since I finished university, I don’t know what became of her”, says the girl apologetically.<\/em><\/p>\n

“La ringrazio molto, Signorina. Se le viene in mente qualche altro fatto non esiti a contattarci. Grazie e Buongiorno.” Poi messo gi\u00f9 il telefono l’Ispettore Augusto rivolge uno sguardo di malcelata soddisfazione al Tenente Ciceri.
\n“Thank you very much miss. If you remember anything else don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you, and good day.” Once he’s put the phone down, Inspector Augusto directs a glance of ill concealed satisfaction at Lieutenant Ciceri.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Tenente, contatti immediatamente la facolt\u00e0 di medicina di Bari e trovi tutte le studentesse di nome Gisella degli ultimi dieci anni. Non \u00e8 un nome molto comune, non ce ne saranno tante”, dice Augusto sfregandosi le mani.
\n“Lieutenant, contact the faculty of medicine at Bari immediately, and find all the students called Gisella from the last ten years. It isn’t a very common name, there won’t be many of them”, says Augusto, rubbing his hand together.<\/em><\/p>\n
