Okay, I confess, that’s a clickbait<\/span><\/a> title, just a cheap device to grab your attention. The real title may not sound as dramatic, but it is, none the less, very entertaining:<\/span><\/p>\n

Wheelchair Rage At The Rest Home!<\/strong><\/p>\n

If, like us, you’ve had to deal with elderly and increasingly dependent parents, with all the consequent visits to doctors, clinics, hospitals, organising of badanti<\/strong> (carers), and so on, you’ll know that a sense of humour is a vital ally. After Serena’s father passed away three years ago, we were fortunate enough to find a wonderful casa famiglia<\/strong> (family run rest home) for Serena’s mum, Rosanna.<\/p>\n

The casa famiglia<\/strong> has little in common with the large, ‘industrial scale’ old people’s homes. It’s not posh, just a fairly simple country residence with a garden around it, chickens and an allotment out back, and, most importantly, an outstanding staff consisting of several very kind carers and a jolly cook, led by the padrona<\/strong> (boss) and her son.<\/p>\n

Well, contrary to expectations, life is never dull at Rose Rosse<\/strong> (Red Roses, the name of the Rosanna’s casa famiglia<\/strong>), and the dynamics amongst the group of elderly female residents can lead to some rather amusing situations. Here, for your diversion, Serena recounts a recent true incident in the form of an imaginary newspaper report:<\/p>\n

Guerra fra carrozzine in casa di riposo<\/span><\/p>\n

Una vera e proprio guerra in sedie a rotelle \u00e8 avvenuta sabato mattina scorsa fra alcune anziane residenti di una casa di riposo vicino a Pontremoli.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sabato mattina alle ore 10.00, la signora Rosanna, di anni 89, \u00e8 stata condotta sulla sua sedia a rotelle in soggiorno, dove ha subito scoperto che il ‘suo’ posto davanti alla televisione era gi\u00e0 occupato da un’altra residente, la signora Rina, di anni 82. “Nessuno ha un posto fisso, in genere ogni giorno spostiamo i residenti in posti diversi” racconta l’infermiera, “Ma siccome Rosanna \u00e8 stata in quel posto per due giorni di fila, ha deciso che quello era il suo posto.”<\/p>\n

Finita la colazione, Rosanna si \u00e8 spinta con le mani via dal tavolo, e poi, trascinandosi in avanti coi piedi sul pavimento, ha diretto la propria sedia a rotelle verso l’usurpatrice. Raggiuntala, ha cominciato a spingere via coi piedi la sedia a rotelle di Rina, che a sua volta cercava di respingere l’attacco. A questo punto \u00e8 intervenuta una terza residente, Anna, di anni 91, sempre in sedia a rotelle. Aggrappandosi con le mani al tavolo e alle sedie, si \u00e8 portata dietro a Rosanna, ha afferrato i manici della sedia a rotelle e cercato di spingerla verso il camino.<\/p>\n

“A quel punto Rosanna ha tirato su le leve dei freni, e ha esclamato: “Da qui non potete pi\u00f9 muovermi!”, racconta la cuoca che ha assistito a tutta la scena, e aggiunge: “Io non sono riuscita a intervenire perch\u00e9 ero piegata in due dal ridere!”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
