Dove si trova?&#8221; mi sono chiesta tante volte. Mi sembrava di ricordare che si trovasse da qualche parte vicino a Firenze, ma non ero sicura dove. Poi un giorno notai un articolo su un giornale che parlava appunto di un castello fantasma. Lessi l&#8217;articolo, ed eccolo! era lui &#8230; il castello della mia memoria.<br \/>\n<em>I&#8217;ve asked myself many times: &#8220;Does it really exist, or did I dream it? Where is it?&#8221; I seemed to remember that it it was somewhere near Firenze, but I wasn&#8217;t sure where. Then one day I noticed an article in a newspaper that talked about a ghost castle. Pap\u00e0 lo indic\u00f2 e disse: &#8220;Andiamo l\u00ec, a visitare quel castello!&#8221;<br \/>\n<em>After an hour and a half&#8217;s drive a castle appeared on a hill in the distance. I remember a succession of rooms, each one more marvellous than the other! There was a completely white room that seemed to be made of sugar icing, another covered in ceramic plates, another in the Byzantine style, then one that was, if possible, more fantastic than all the rest, the peacock room! It&#8217;s a fantastic creation by the Florentine marquis Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximens d&#8217;Aragona, who had inherited it in 1818. Between 1852 and 1889 Ferdinando completely modified the original appearance of the 17th century building, transforming it into the most important example in Italy, and perhaps Europe, of the Oriental stile which was in vogue at that time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nell&#8217;immenso parco Ferdinando fece costruire delle fornaci per realizzare sul posto i materiali necessari: mattoni, piastrelle colorate e stucchi. These trees had been purposely brought over from America.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Alla morte di Ferdinando, il castello pass\u00f2 ai suoi eredi, e da l\u00ec in varie mani. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale venne prima occupato e depredato dai Tedeschi e poi dagli Alleati. Infine fu acquistato da una societ\u00e0 che fra il 1970 e il 1990 lo trasform\u00f2 in un albergo di lusso, visitabile su richiesta. During the Second World War it was first occupied and looted by the Germans and then by the Allies. Finally, it was acquired by a corporation which, between 1970 and 1990, transformed it into a luxury hotel, visitable upon request.
