Surely not! ?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The convolutions of Italian grammar can be overwhelming, but it&#8217;s often the subtleties that can be persistently confusing.<br \/>\nSuch as my two pet hates, two little groups of words that still occasionally trip me up after all these years. And I guarantee that they&#8217;ll trip you up as well, especially when you come to use them in the plural.<br \/>\n<strong>Andiamo a vedere qual \u00e8 il problema<\/strong> (Let&#8217;s see what the problem is):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"shortcode-typography\" style=\"font-family: 'Cantarell'; font-size: 26px; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Group 1. <strong>mente &#8211; menta &#8211; mento<\/strong> = mind &#8211; mint &#8211; chin<\/span><\/span><br \/>\nFortunately, these words are not often used in the plural<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">the mind = <strong>la mente<\/strong>, <em>plural <\/em><strong>le menti<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>hai qualcosa in mente per stasera?<\/strong> = do you have something in mind for this evening?<br \/>\n<strong>mi \u00e8 venuta in mente un&#8217;idea geniale!<\/strong> = an ingenious idea has come to (<em>my<\/em>) mind! (I&#8217;ve had an ingenious idea!)<\/p>\n<p>the mint = <strong>la menta<\/strong>, <em>plural <\/em><strong>le mente<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>la tisana di menta \u00e8 molto rilassante<\/strong> = mint tea is very relaxing<br \/>\n<strong>a me mi piace la menta, specialmente la menta piperita<\/strong> = I like mint, especially peppermint<\/p>\n<p>the chin = <strong>il mento<\/strong>, <em>plural <\/em><strong>i menti<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>mentre mi facevo la barba mi sono tagliato il mento<\/strong> = I cut my chin whilst I was shaving<br \/>\n<strong>Paola ha il mento appuntito<\/strong> = Paola has a pointed chin<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"shortcode-typography\" style=\"font-family: 'Cantarell'; font-size: 26px; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Group 2. <strong>vite &#8211; vite &#8211; vita &#8211; vita<\/strong> = vine &#8211; screw &#8211; waist &#8211; life<\/span><\/span><br \/>\nThese words are particularly confusing because they are frequently used in the plural<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18125\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/temp-045.jpg\" aria-label=\"Temp 045\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18125\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18125\"  alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/temp-045.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/temp-045.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/temp-045-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/temp-045-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-18125\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080\"><em><strong>Quando siamo arrivati in Italia il nostro terreno era tutto abbandonato, e le viti erano quasi selvatiche.
