Il 15 agosto di ogni anno si festeggia una particolare festa in Italia: il Ferragosto.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year on the 15th of August in Italy one particular holiday is celebrated: Assumption Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

L\u2019origine di questo termine risale al 18 a.C. (avanti Cristo, cio\u00e8\u2019 diciotto anni prima della nascita di Cristo).\u00a0L\u2019imperatore Augusto decise di istituire (creare) un periodo di riposo, chiamato appunto Feriae Augusti. Ad\u00a0oggi la settimana di ferragosto rappresenta un periodo di riposo per tutto il Paese.<\/p>\n

The origin of this term dates back to 18 B.C. (before Christ, that is 18 years before the birth of Christ).\u00a0<\/em>The emperor Augusto decided to\u00a0establish\u00a0(create) a period of rest, called the holidays of emperor Augustus. To this day, the week of Ferragosto represents a period of rest for the whole country.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Se vi capiter\u00e0 di andare in Italia durante questo periodo noterete alcune cose: le citt\u00e0 saranno svuotate (cio\u00e8 tutti i cittadini saranno andati in vacanza) e troverete prevalentemente molti turisti.<\/p>\n

If you happen to be in Italy during this period you will notice a few things: the cities will be empty (that is, all the citizens will have gone on vacation) and you will\u00a0mainly find many tourists.<\/i><\/p>\n

E dove vanno allora gli italiani a ferragosto? E cosa fanno? Beh, la risposta \u00e8 semplice: fuggono dalla citt\u00e0 per andare in montagna, al mare, o in vacanza all\u2019estero.<\/p>\n

And so, where do the Italians go during Ferragosto? And what do they do?\u00a0<\/em>Well, the answer is simple: they escape from the city to go to the mountains, or to the sea, or on vacation overseas.<\/em><\/p>\n

Le spiagge del Belpaese (ricordate il termine Belpaese cosa significa?) saranno gremite (piene) di persone, ma anche i sentieri di montagna saranno pieni di gente che cerca un po\u2019 di fresco scappando dal caldo cittadino.<\/p>\n

The beaches of the “Belpaese” (do you remember what the term Belpaese means?) will be crowded (full) with people, but also the mountain paths will be full of people searching for a bit of cool air while\u00a0<\/em>escaping the hot city.<\/i><\/p>\n

Una cosa certamente vi capiter\u00e0 di sentire: \u201ccosa fai per ferragosto?\u201d e\u00a0la risposta il pi\u00f9 delle volte sar\u00e0 sempre la stessa: \u201cbeh la grigliata di Ferragosto!\u201d.<\/p>\n

One thing you are certain to hear asked is: “what are you doing for Ferragosto?” and the answer most of the time will always be the same: “well, Ferragosto barbecue!”.<\/em><\/p>\n

Si perch\u00e9 come noi americani, gli italiani amano il barbecue, soprattutto in certe zone come la Toscana, ma anche nel Sud Italia.<\/p>\n

Yes, because like us Americans, Italians love barbecue (grilled meats), especially in certain areas like Toscana, but also in the south of Italy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
