For example, my sister is the youngest of the family, or Rome is the most beautiful city in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Relative superlatives are formed just like comparatives but with the addition of the definite article (<em>il, la, lo, l&#8217;&#8230;<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><em>Per esempio:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Mia sorella \u00e8 la pi\u00f9 giovane della famiglia<\/em> &#8211; My sister is the youngest of the family<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Roma \u00e8 la citt\u00e0 pi\u00f9 bella d&#8217;Italia<\/em> &#8211; Rome is the most beautiful city in Italy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>La mia zucca \u00e8 il pi\u00f9 grande<\/em> &#8211; My pumpkin is the biggest<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>E&#8217; la squadra meno forte<\/em> -It&#8217;s the weakest team<\/p>\n<p>Here are some common superlatives you will hear that do not need &#8216;<em>pi\u00f9 <\/em>&#8216; or &#8216;<em>meno<\/em>&#8216; in front of them:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Migliore<\/em> (The best)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Peggiore<\/em>\u00a0(The worst)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Minore<\/em>\u00a0(The least)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Maggiore<\/em>\u00a0(The biggest)<\/p>\n<p><em>Per esempio:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Luca \u00e8 l&#8217;attore\u00a0migliore<\/em> &#8211; Luca is the best actor<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Il natale \u00e8 la stagione peggiore &#8211; <\/em>Christmas is the worst season<\/p>\n<p><strong>Absolute superlatives<\/strong> on the other hand are just that, absolute. If you wanted to say your sister is extremely young or Rome is extremely beautiful, you would add the following to the adjective:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211;<em>ssimo<\/em> (masculine singular)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>-ssima<\/em> (feminine singular)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211;<em>ssimi<\/em> (masculine plural)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>-ssime<\/em> (feminine plural)<\/p>\n<p><em>Per esempio:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>La mia sorella \u00e8 giovanissima<\/em> &#8211; My sister is very young<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Roma \u00e8 belissima<\/em> &#8211; Rome is extremely beautiful<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>La mia zucca \u00e8 grandissimo<\/em> &#8211; My pumpkin is very big<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>La squadra \u00e8 debolissima<\/em> &#8211; The team is very weak<\/p>\n<p>There are some absolute superlative &#8216;irregulars&#8217; that can replace or be used interchangeably with the &#8216;regular&#8217; absolute superlative:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em> Ottimo <\/em>\u2013 very good (<em>buonissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Pessimo<\/em> \u2013 very bad (<em>cattivissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Massimo<\/em> \u2013 very big (<em>grandissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Minimo<\/em> \u2013 very small (<em>piccolissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Sommo<\/em> \u2013 very high (<em>altissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Infimo<\/em> \u2013 very low (<em>bassissimo<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Some absolute superlatives are irregular and take <em>errimo <\/em>as their ending:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Celebre<\/em> (famous) &#8211;\u00a0<em>celeberrima\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Misero<\/em> (miserable) &#8211;\u00a0<em>miserrimo\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Aspro<\/em> (sour) &#8211;\u00a0<em>asperrimo\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Acre<\/em> (bitter) &#8211;\u00a0<em>acerrimo\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Integro<\/em>\u00a0(honest) &#8211; \u00a0<em>integerrimo\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Salube<\/em> (healthy) &#8211;\u00a0<em>saluberrimo\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Tetro<\/em> (gloomy) &#8211;\u00a0<em>teterrimi\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Superlatives can also be used with adverbs, such as in the example: <em>Io canto benissimo<\/em> (I sing very well).
