We all know reading is an important skill when studying languages, and with plenty of Italian news articles and other magazines online there is always something to read and learn from. But, have you ever thought of re-reading an old favorite book of yours in Italian, a story that you know well?<\/p>\n

This is a strategy I suggest often to those studying a new language, and not only with books, but also re-watching movies or TV shows that you already know well in English. Since you already know the base of the story line you will be able to better understand the Italian! I especially like re-watching Disney movies in Italian.<\/p>\n

In college I bought a few Harry Potter books in Italian and French, since it was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I haven’t watched the movies in Italian or French yet – that will have to be next!<\/p>\n

l signore e la signora Dursley, di Privet Drive numero 4, erano orgogliosi di affermare di essere perfettamente normali, e grazie tante. Erano le ultime persone al mondo da cui aspettarsi cose strane o misteriose, <\/span>perch\u00e9 sciocchezze del genere proprio non le approvavano.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Il signor Dursley era direttore di una ditta di nome Grunnings, che fabbricava trapani. Era un uomo corpulento, nerboruto, quasi senza collo e con un grosso paio di baffi. La signora Dursley era magra, bionda e con un collo quasi due volte pi\u00f9 lungo del normale, il che le tornava assai utile, dato che passava gran parte del tempo ad allungarlo oltre la siepe del giardino per spiare i vicini. I Dursley avevano un figlioletto di nome Dudley e secondo <\/span>loro non esisteva al mondo un bambino pi\u00f9 bello.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Possedevano tutto quel che si poteva desiderare, ma avevano anche un segreto, e il loro pi\u00f9 grande timore era che qualcuno potesse scoprirlo. Non credevano di poter sopportare che qualcuno venisse a sapere dei Potter. La signora Potter era la sorella della signora Dursley, ma non si vedevano da anni. Anzi, la signora Dursley faceva addirittura finta di non avere sorelle, perch\u00e9 la signora Potter e quel buono a nulla del marito non avrebbero potuto essere pi\u00f9 diversi da loro di cos\u00ec. I <\/span>Dursley rabbrividivano al solo pensiero di quel che avrebbero detto i vicini se i Potter si fossero fatti vedere nei paraggi. Sapevano che i Potter avevano anche loro un figlio piccolo, ma non lo avevano mai visto. E questa era un\u2019altra buona ragione per tenere i Potter a distanza: non volevano che Dudley avesse a che fare con un bambino di quel genere.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Quando i coniugi Dursley si svegliarono, la mattina di quel marted\u00ec grigio e nuvoloso in cui inizia la nostra storia, nel cielo coperto non c\u2019era nulla che facesse presagire le cose strane e <\/span>misteriose che di l\u00ec a poco sarebbero accadute in tutto il Paese. Il signor Dursley scelse canticchiando la cravatta pi\u00f9 anonima del suo guardaroba e la signora Dursley continu\u00f2 a chiacchierare ininterrottamente, mentre con grande sforzo costringeva sul seggiolone Dudley che urlava a squarciagola.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
