Seeing as summer is in full swing, I wanted to share a summer inspired poesia<\/em> (poem): Temporale Estivo – <\/em>“Summer Lightening Storm” written by Federigo Tozzi (1883-1920).<\/p>\n

Some of Federigo Tozzi’s background according to wikipedia<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Tozzi was the son of an innkeeper. He initially worked as a railway official, but took over running the family inn after his father’s death. In 1911 he published his first book of poetry. Two years later, he began work on his first novel, Con gli occhi chiusi<\/i>\u00a0(“With closed eyes”), which was highly autobiographical.<\/p>\n

That same year, he also founded a nationalist, bi-weekly magazine called\u00a0La Torre<\/i>\u00a0and became a journalist in Rome. Through his literary activity, he caught the attention of the writer\u00a0Luigi Pirandello, who subsequently supported him.<\/p>\n

In the decades following his death, he came to be considered one of the first Italian modernists. According to\u00a0Italo Calvino, he is one of the great European writers of Italian descent. His style is concise and laconic.”<\/p>\n

Le nuvole grigie e nere si urtano,<\/em>
\nsi pigiano spinte dal vento, nascondono<\/em>
\nil sole, oscurano il cielo.<\/em>
\nCi son ancora, qua e l\u00e0, lembi d\u2019azzurro,<\/em>
\nma vanno facendosi sempre pi\u00f9 piccoli,<\/em>
\nsempre pi\u00f9 radi.<\/em>
\nEcco un lampo: guizza, abbaglia,<\/em>
\nsembra incendi il cielo.<\/em>
\nPoi scoppia il tuono.<\/em>
\nUn tonfo forte, un brontolio lungo.<\/em>
\nI passeri si rifugiano<\/em>
\nsotto i tegoli, le rondini volano basse,<\/em>
\nsenza stridi.<\/em>
\nCadono le prime gocce d\u2019acqua, si fanno<\/em>
\nfitte, sembrano grossi aghi lucenti.<\/em>
\nPoi la pioggia scroscia impetuosa.<\/em><\/p>\n

Summer Lightning Storm<\/strong><\/p>\n

The gray and black clouds collide,
\nthey squeeze one another, pushed by the wind, hiding
\nthe sun, obscuring the sky.
\nThere are still, here and there, strips of blue,
\nbut they are becoming smaller and smaller,
\nmore and more sparse.
\nHere\u2019s a flash: it darts, it dazzles,
\nIt seems to set the sky on fire.
\nThen the thunder bursts.
\nA loud thud, a long rumbling.
\nSparrows take refuge
\nunder the shingles, the swallows fly low
\nwithout screeching.
\nThe first drops of water fall, they become
\ndense, they look like thick, bright needles.
\nThen the rain pelts down impetuously.<\/p>\n
