In grammar conjunctions join words, phrases and clauses. For example:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Per favore guarda il mio bagaglio, <strong>mentre<\/strong> compro il biglietto.<\/em><br \/>\nPlease watch my baggage <strong>while<\/strong> I buy my ticket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>E&#8217; bella, <strong>per\u00f2<\/strong> non mi piace.<\/em><br \/>\nShe is beautiful, <strong>however<\/strong> I do not like her.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19063\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19063\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-19063\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/grammar-389907_1280-350x232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/grammar-389907_1280-350x232.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/grammar-389907_1280-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/grammar-389907_1280-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/09\/grammar-389907_1280.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-19063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo from Pixabay, CCO.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Coordinate Conjunctions<\/h4>\n<p>Coordinate conjunctions join units that are equal grammatically (fill the same position in the sentence) or join two clauses of the same type:<\/p>\n<p><strong>E joins two verbs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Scivol\u00f2 <strong>e<\/strong> cadde sul pavimento.<\/em><br \/>\nHe slipped <strong>and<\/strong> fell on the foor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>E joins two clauses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Ieri sera and\u00f2 a casa <strong>e<\/strong> trov\u00f2 le finestre rotte.<\/em><br \/>\nShe went home last night <strong>and<\/strong> found the windows broken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Ma joins two adverbs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Si muoveva velocemente <strong>ma<\/strong> silenziosamente.<\/em><br \/>\nHe moved quickly <strong>but<\/strong> quietly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>O joins two adverbial phrases:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Possiamo andare attraverso il fume <strong>o<\/strong> attraverso i boschi.<\/em><br \/>\nWe can go over the river <strong>or<\/strong> through the woods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>These conjunctions serve to intensify the coordination:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>entrambi \u2026 e<\/em> &#8211; both\u2026 and..<br \/>\n<em>non solo\u2026 ma anche\u2026<\/em> &#8211; not only.. but also\u2026<br \/>\n<em>sia \u2026 che\u2026<\/em> &#8211;\u00a0 either\u2026or\u2026<br \/>\n<em>n\u00e9\u2026 n\u00e9\u2026.<\/em> &#8211; neither\u2026nor\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Entrambi<\/strong> Maria <strong>ed<\/strong> io andremo alla festa.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Both<\/strong> Maria <strong>and<\/strong> I will go to the party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Non solo<\/strong> diede regali a tutti noi, <strong>ma anche<\/strong> ci invit\u00f2 alla festa.<\/em><br \/>\nShe<strong> not only<\/strong> gave all of us presents, <strong>but<\/strong> she also invited us to<br \/>\nthe party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>N\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0I soldi <strong>n\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0il potere possono farti felice.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Neither<\/strong> money <strong>nor<\/strong> power can make you happy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Sia<\/strong> mio marito<strong> che<\/strong> io possiamo portarti a casa.<\/em><br \/>\nEither my husband or I can drive you home.<\/p>\n<h4>Subordinate Conjunctions<\/h4>\n<p>Unlike coordinate conjunctions, subordinate conjunctions join elements of unequal rank, establishing a relation of subordination between two phrases or clauses. Following is a list of commonly used subordinate conjunctions:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>perch\u00e9<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; because<br \/>\n<em>(da) quando<\/em> &#8211; when (since)<br \/>\n<em>mentre<\/em> &#8211; while<br \/>\n<em>appena che<\/em> &#8211; as soon as<br \/>\n<em>una volta che<\/em> &#8211; once (that)<br \/>\n<em>come<\/em> &#8211; as<br \/>\nse &#8211; if<br \/>\n<em>sebbene<\/em> &#8211; although<br \/>\n<em>a condizione che<\/em> &#8211; in the condition that<br \/>\n<em>a meno che<\/em> &#8211; unless<br \/>\n<em>dopo che<\/em> &#8211; after that<br \/>\n<em>prima che<\/em> &#8211; before that<br \/>\n<em>fino a che<\/em> &#8211; until<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Non lo vide <strong>dopo che<\/strong> lui ebbe lasciato la citt\u00e0.<\/em><br \/>\nShe never saw him <strong>after<\/strong> he left the town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Prese la multa <strong>perch\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0guidava troppo veloce.<\/em><br \/>\nHe got a ticket <strong>because<\/strong> he was speeding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Una volta che<\/strong> hai lavato l&#8217;auto asciugala bene.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Once<\/strong> you have washed the car, dry it very well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Si ammal\u00f2 gravemente <strong>da quando<\/strong> ebbe l&#8217;incidente.<\/em><br \/>\nShe became very ill, <strong>since<\/strong> she had her accident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Non va mai ai festini, <strong>a meno che<\/strong> sua moglie non vada con lui.<\/em><br \/>\nHe never goes to parties <strong>unless<\/strong> his wife comes with him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Aspetteremo dentro<strong> fino a che<\/strong> la smette di piovere.<\/em><br \/>\nWe will wait inside <strong>until<\/strong> the rain stops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"232\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/10\/grammar-389907_1280-350x232-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><p>Ciao a tutti!
