You have to try everything! Well obviously I’m referring to the work experiences that life offers you! Of course, it’s not easy to reason in this way, because lots of people think “I’m studying to become an engineer, and I’ve got to be a babysitter? I’d rather stay at home!”, but what you should really think is that trying everything in life helps to widen your horizons; especially if you don’t have any experience in that area.

I’ll begin, therefore, by talking about my latest work experience, the commis di sala (commonly known as: waiter). He/she is that common character in the world of catering who serves at the tables and clears away; he/she always seems to be at your disposal and helpful, and you can sometimes even become friends if you’re staying in a hotel. But not many people know what hard work it is to be a waiter!

Well then, I was called upon by a four star hotel resort situated in Gargano (the area highlighted in orange on the map below), to work as a waiter; this was the first time I’d ever been “called upon” to do this type of work in a big place such as a resort capable of hosting more than 550 seats!

After the journey to get there, a few days went by in which I was tried out, and really tested, both mentally and physically (it seems as if I’m talking about military training hahaha!)

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2163" style="border: 1px solid black" alt="" width="261" height="306" / src="https://blogs.transparent.com/italian/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2012/07/Zone-Gargano-Posizione2.png">

Part 2 of Mattia’s story follows tomorrow.

In this blog, our friend Mattia writes about his experience of working as a cameriere (waiter) at a large resort in the Gargano area of Puglia.
