Quante banane vuoi? <\/strong>(Give me six please) \u2026 <font color=\"#646b86\"><strong><em>Dammene sei per favore<\/em><font color=\"#000000\"> N.B. <\/font><\/strong><\/font><font color=\"#000000\">here, we combine<strong> da\u2019, mi<\/strong> and <strong>ne<\/strong> to make <strong>dammene<\/strong> (give me of them)<\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Quanti gatti ha la Dina? <\/strong>(She\u2019s got four) \u2026 <em><font color=\"#646b86\"><strong>Ne ha quattro<\/strong><\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Quante persone c\u2019erano alla festa? <\/strong>(There where a lot!) \u2026&#160; <font color=\"#646b86\"><em><strong>Ce n\u2019erano tante <\/strong><\/em><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><strong>N.B.<\/strong> <strong>ci<\/strong> (there) becomes <strong>ce<\/strong>, and we drop the <strong>e<\/strong> from <strong>ne<\/strong> when it\u2019s followed by <strong>erano<\/strong> to make <strong>n\u2019erano<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Ci sono degli spazi liberi nel parcheggio? <\/strong>(Yes, there are&#160; still two or three)\u2026&#160; <font color=\"#646b86\"><strong><em>S\u00ec, ce ne sono ancora due o tre <\/em><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Ti piacciono queste camicie?<\/strong> (Yes, if I had enough money I\u2019d buy two of them) \u2026 <font color=\"#646b86\"><em><strong>S\u00ec, se avessi abbastanza soldi ne comprerei due <\/strong><\/em><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><strong>N.B.<\/strong> Here we use the standard construction of subjunctive followed by conditional: <strong>se avessi<\/strong> (\u2018if I had\u2019, subjunctive) <strong>ne comprerei<\/strong>&#160; (I would buy of them\u2019, conditional)<\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ne <\/strong>as a substitute for \u2018of it\u2019\/ \u2018of them\u2019 or \u2018about it\u2019\/ \u2018about them\u2019, with verbs that are normally followed by the preposition <strong>\u2018di\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <em>using avere bisogno di:<\/em><strong>&#160; Hai bisogno della matita?<\/strong> (No, I don\u2019t need it) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">No, non ne ho bisogno<\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong><em>using dimenticarsi di:<\/em> <strong>Ti sei ricordato di telefonare a Mario? <\/strong>(No, I forgot about it) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">No, me ne sono dimenticato\/a<\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <\/strong><em>using accorgersi di:<\/em> <strong>Hai visto che c\u2019era anche Mattia alla festa? <\/strong>(No, I wasn\u2019t aware of it) \u2026 <font color=\"#646b86\"><em><strong>No, non me n\u2019ero accorto\/a <\/strong><\/em><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><strong>N.B. <\/strong>Here once again we drop the <strong>e<\/strong> from <strong>ne<\/strong> an add an apostrophe to make <strong>n\u2019ero<\/strong> (of it I was).<\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong><em>using parlare di: <\/em><strong>Come \u00e8 andata ieri sera? <\/strong>(Let\u2019s not even talk about it!) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">Non ne parliamo neanche!<\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. <\/strong><em>using stancarsi di or stufarsi di:<strong> <\/strong><\/em><strong>Hai ascoltato tutto il CD che ti ho prestato?<\/strong> (No, I got fed up with it after three tracks) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">No, me ne sono stufato\/a dopo tre brani <\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. <\/strong><em>using pentirsi di: <\/em><strong>\u00c8 stata una giornata un po\u2019 stressante, vero? <\/strong>(Yes, but I don\u2019t regret it) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">S\u00ec, ma non me ne pento<\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. <\/strong><em>using interessarsi di or occuparsi di: <\/em><strong>Chi si interessa della prenotazione del ristorante? <\/strong>(Giorgio is taking care of it) \u2026 <strong><em><font color=\"#646b86\">S<\/font><font color=\"#646b86\">e ne sta occupando\/interessando <font color=\"#646b86\">Giorgo <\/font><\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>8. <\/strong><em>using innamorarsi di: <\/em><strong>Pensi che Mario sia innamorato di Lucia? <\/strong>(Yes, he fell in love with her straight away) \u2026 <font color=\"#646b86\"><em><strong>S\u00ec, se n\u2019\u00e8 innamorato subito <\/strong><\/em><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><strong>N.B. si<\/strong> (third person singular reflexive pronoun) becomes <strong>se<\/strong>, <strong>ne<\/strong> looses the <strong>e<\/strong> and becomes <strong>n<\/strong> followed by an apostrophe and&#160; <strong>\u00e8<\/strong> (is): <strong>n\u2019\u00e8<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>I hope you found this quiz useful, we plan to do more in the future.
