Today&#8217;s blog will cover some of the most important irregular verbs in this tense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">The first group of irregular verbs omits the vowel at the beginning of the future tense suffix, hence \u2013<strong>er\u00f2<\/strong>,<strong> -erai<\/strong> etc. becomes<strong> \u2013r\u00f2<\/strong>, <strong>\u2013rai<\/strong>, etc. Here are some of the most common ones:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>andare <\/strong>(to go): <strong>andr\u00f2, andrai, andr\u00e0, andremo, andrete, andranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>avere <\/strong>(to have): <strong>avr\u00f2, avrai, avr\u00e0, avremo, avrete, avranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>bere <\/strong>(to drink): <strong>berr\u00f2, berrai, berr\u00e0, berremo, berrete, berranno<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>cadere <\/strong>(to fall): <strong>cadr\u00f2, cadrai, cadr\u00e0, cadremo, cadrete, cadranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>dovere <\/strong>(to have to): <strong>dovr\u00f2, dovrai, dovr\u00e0, dovremo, dovrete, dovranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>potere <\/strong>(to be able to): <strong>potr\u00f2, potrai, potr\u00e0, potremo, potrete, potranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>sapere <\/strong>(to know): <strong>sapr\u00f2, saprai, sapr\u00e0, sapremo, saprete, sapranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>vedere <\/strong>(to see): <strong>vedr\u00f2, vedrai, vedr\u00e0, vedremo, vedrete, vedranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>vivere <\/strong>(to live) : <strong>vivr\u00f2, vivrai, vivr\u00e0, vivremo, vivrete, vivranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">for example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>quando <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">andr\u00f2<\/span> a Parigi <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">vedr\u00f2<\/span> finalmente la Torre Eiffel <\/strong>(when I go to Paris I will finally see the Eiffel Tower);<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>purtroppo Mario e Michele non <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">potranno<\/span> venire in Italia l\u2019estate prossima <\/strong>(unfortunately Mario and Michele will not be able to come to Italy next summer).<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Some irregular verbs change their root in the future tense. These are the most common ones:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>essere <\/strong>(to be): <strong>sar\u00f2, sarai, sar\u00e0, saremo, sarete, saranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>rimanere <\/strong>(to remain): <strong>rimarr\u00f2, rimarrai, rimarr\u00e0, rimarremo, rimarrete, rimarranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>tenere <\/strong>(to hold): <strong>terr\u00f2, terrai, terr\u00e0, terremo, terrete, terranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>venire <\/strong>(to come): <strong>verr\u00f2, verrai, verr\u00e0, verremo, verrete, verranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><strong>volere <\/strong>(to want): <strong>vorr\u00f2, vorrai, vorr\u00e0, vorremo, vorrete, vorranno<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">for example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>le previsioni del tempo dicono che domani sar\u00e0 molto freddo <\/strong>(the weather forecast say that tomorrow will be very cold);<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>Giorgio e Mirella verranno a Lucca sabato prossimo e ci rimarranno per una settimana <\/strong>(Giorgio and Mirella will come to Lucca next Saturday and will stay for a week).<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Another group of verbs which have infinitives ending in \u2013<strong>care<\/strong>\u00a0 and \u2013<strong>gare<\/strong>, e.g <strong>pagare <\/strong>(to pay) and <strong>giocare <\/strong>(to play) add an \u2013<strong>h- <\/strong>before the future endings, so that \u2013<strong>er\u00f2, \u2013erai, <\/strong>etc. become \u2013<strong>her\u00f2, -herai<\/strong> etc. This is done in order to maintain the hard <strong>c<\/strong> and <strong>g<\/strong> sounds, e.g. <strong>pag<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">her\u00f2<\/span><\/strong> and <strong>gioc<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">her\u00f2<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">For example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>non ti preoccupare, mi <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">pagherai<\/span> la settimana prossima<\/strong> (don\u2019t worry, you can pay me next week. <em>literally: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">you will pay<\/span> me next week<\/em>); <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>la sera di Capodanno <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">giocheremo<\/span> a tombola<\/strong> (on New Year\u2019s Eve <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">we will play<\/span> tombola).<\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">However, verbs with infinitives ending in \u2013<strong>ciare<\/strong> and \u2013<strong>giare<\/strong>, e.g. <strong>cominciare <\/strong>(to start) and <strong>mangiare <\/strong>(to eat) drop the \u2013<strong>i-<\/strong> from the stem in the future. This is done in order to maintain the soft <strong>c<\/strong> and <strong>g<\/strong> sounds, e.g. <strong>cominc<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">er\u00f2<\/span><\/strong> and <strong>mang<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">er\u00f2<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">For example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>il corso di nuoto <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">comincer\u00e0<\/span> il 7 gennaio <\/strong>(the swimming course <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">will start<\/span> on the 7th of January);<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">mangeremo<\/span> alle otto <\/strong>(<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">we will eat<\/span> at eight o\u2019clock).<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>Alla prossima puntata.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my previous blog \u2018I Propositi per l\u2019anno Nuovo\u2019 I explained the construction and use of the future tense.
