These numbers are regular adjectives, and therefore\u00a0change gender and pluralize depending on the noun to which they refer. <\/strong>nth<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Here are some everyday example of the use of ordinal numbers:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018Oggi \u00e8 il <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">primo giorno<\/span> di primavera\u2019<\/strong> (today is the first day of spring), in which <strong>primo<\/strong> refers to <strong>giorno<\/strong>, so it is masculine singular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018Questa \u00e8 la <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">terza primavera<\/span> di fila che veniamo qua in vacanza\u2019<\/strong> (this is the third spring in a row that we\u2019ve come here on holiday), in which <strong>terza<\/strong> refers to <strong>primavera<\/strong>, so it is feminine singular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018Domani \u00e8\u00a0l\u2019<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ottantanovesimo compleanno<\/span> del padre di Francesco\u2019<\/strong> (tomorrow is\u00a0Francesco\u2019s father\u2019s\u00a0eighty-ninth birthday), in which <strong>ottantanovesimo<\/strong>\u00a0 refers to <strong>compleanno<\/strong>, so it is masculine singular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018\u00c8 una tradizione che risale al <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">dodicesimo secolo<\/span>\u2019<\/strong> (it\u2019s a tradition that goes back to the twelfth century), in which <strong>dodicesimo<\/strong> refers to <strong>secolo<\/strong>, so it is masculine singular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018Gli <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Americani<\/span> sono stati i <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">primi<\/span> ad andare sulla Luna\u2019<\/strong> (the Americans were the first to go to the moon), in which <strong>primi<\/strong> refers to <strong>Americani<\/strong>, so it is masculine plural.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\"><strong>\u2018Le <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">prime<\/span> tre <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">sere<\/span> lo spettacolo era tutto esaurito\u2019<\/strong> (the first three evenings the show was completely sold out), in which <strong>prime<\/strong> refers to <strong>sere<\/strong>, so it is feminine plural.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;font-family: Verdana\">Ordinal numbers are written numerically in the following way:\u00a0for the masculine form;\u00a0<strong>1o<\/strong>,<strong> 2o<\/strong>, <strong>3o<\/strong>, etc. for the feminine form; <strong>1a<\/strong>, <strong>2a<\/strong>, <strong>3a<\/strong>, etc. The plural forms, e.g. <strong>1i<\/strong>, <strong>2i<\/strong> or <strong>3e<\/strong> <strong>4e<\/strong>, are rarely used.\u00a0<em>N.B.
