When traveling in Italy, visitors are bombarded by a plethora of signs and warning notices, most of which will probably turn out to be irrelevant. Some of these signs are easy to understand because they are international, or pictographic, for example the word STOP written at a road junction will make sense to anyone who knows English!<\/span><\/p>\n

However, there are other important signs and warning notices that are less easy to decipher especially when you are concentrating on driving along the autostrada<\/strong> (freeway\/motorway) for example. So here is a list of some of the common avvertimenti<\/strong> that you may encounter:<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Mezzi pubblici<\/strong> (Public transport)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Allacciare la cintura di sicurezza<\/strong> \u2013 Fasten your seat belt<\/span><\/p>\n

Non sporgersi dal finestrino<\/strong> \u2013 Don’t lean out of the window<\/span><\/p>\n

Si prega di non parlare al conducente<\/strong> \u2013 Please don\u2019t speak to the driver<\/span><\/p>\n

Vietato attraversare i binari<\/strong> \u2013 Crossing the railway lines is prohibited<\/span><\/p>\n

Pedoni \u2013 servitevi del sottopassaggio<\/strong> \u2013 Pedestrians \u2013 use the subway<\/span><\/p>\n

Non toccate i fili – pericolo di morte<\/strong> \u2013 Don\u2019t touch the wires \u2013 danger of death<\/span><\/p>\n

Moderare la velocit\u00e0<\/strong> \u2013 Reduce speed<\/span><\/p>\n

Rallentare<\/strong> \u2013 Slow down<\/span><\/p>\n

Acqua non potabile<\/strong> \u2013 Not drinking water<\/span><\/p>\n

… and finally, one that we see a lot here in Lunigiana: Raccolta funghi e prodotti del sottobosco a pagamento – <\/strong>To pick wild mushrooms and other forest fruits you need to buy a permit.<\/p>\n

These are just a few of the many avvertimenti<\/strong> (warning signs) that you will be able to \u2018enjoy\u2019 in Italy. I don\u2019t want to list too many because you might change your mind about coming here!
