Now let&#8217;s have a look at how we express mental tiredness. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\">Listed below are four common ways of expressing mental tiredness, the familiar sensation that we get when our brain is beginning to grow numb and we can&#8217;t think straight anymore. Note that all of these expressions use the verb <strong>essere<\/strong>, and must therefore be modified according to number and gender.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><font size=\"2\">essere rimbambito\/a\/i\/e<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>essere rimbecillito\/a\/i\/e<\/strong>&#160;<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>essere rincretinito\/a\/i\/e<\/strong>&#160; <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>essere rimbischerito\/a\/i\/e<\/strong> (this is a typical dialectic Tuscan expression)<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\">Which of these expressions you choose to use is up to you, it&#8217;s really a matter of personal preference.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\">Obviously the best thing to do when you are <strong>rimbischerito\/a\/i\/e<\/strong> is to <strong>&#8216;andare a letto&#8217;<\/strong> (go to bed) e.g. <strong>&quot;sono <strong>rimbischerita<\/strong>, vado a letto&quot;<\/strong> (I&#8217;m <em>mentally <\/em>exhausted, I&#8217;m off to bed &#8211; <em>feminine singular<\/em>). N.B. I have added the word <em>&#8216;mentally&#8217;<\/em> to my translations in order to differentiate them from the expressions for physical tiredness listed in part 1.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\">Alternately you could find a comfy place and <strong>&#8216;andare a sdraiarsi&#8217;<\/strong> (go and lie down), or <strong>andare a riposarsi<\/strong> (go to have a rest), e.g <strong>&quot;sono proprio rincretinito, adesso mi vado sdraiare&quot;<\/strong> (I&#8217;m really <em>mentally<\/em> worn out, I&#8217;m going to have a lie down now &#8211; <em>masculine singular<\/em>), or <strong>&quot;ragazze, se siete rimbambite perch\u00e9 non andate a riposarvi per un po&#8217; ?&quot;<\/strong> (girls, if you&#8217;re <em>mentally<\/em> tired out why don&#8217;t you go and rest for a bit? &#8211; <em>feminine plural<\/em>).<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\">Here in Italy the traditional habit of taking a nap after lunch, especially in the heat of the summer when only mad dogs and tourists roam the streets, is still very common. All of the following mean to &#8216;take a nap&#8217; or &#8216;have a siesta&#8217;:<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><font size=\"2\">fare la penichella<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>fare un pisolino,<\/strong> or <strong>schiacciare un pisolino<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><font size=\"2\">fare il riposino<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><font size=\"2\">fare il sonnellino<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>Quindi, se questo blog vi ha rimbecillito, meglio che fate un pisolino! <\/strong>(therefore, if this blog has <em>mentally<\/em> exhausted you, you&#8217;d better go and have a siesta!)<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In part 1 of this blog I looked at some of the expressions that we use to describe physical tiredness.
