In the first part of this blog I explored some of the bureaucratic language found in a ‘health and safety at work’ leaflet. If you’ve studied that blog you will all be familiar with ‘I Tuoi Diritti’<\/strong> (Your Rights), <\/font>but, of course, as an employee you also have ‘I Tuoi Doveri’<\/strong> (Your Duties). Let’s find out what they are and use it as an opportunity to explore a bit more ‘bureaucratic Italian’:<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Ti ricordo che hai anche dei doveri:<\/font><\/strong><\/td>\nI remind you that you also have duties: N.B. as we saw in part one this leaflet makes use of the informal ‘tu’ <\/strong>in  order to seem a bit more ‘user friendly’. Interestingly it also uses the phrase ti ricordo<\/strong> (I remind you). This is quite a personal touch and is a relatively new trend in Italy, it would be more common to read vi ricordiamo<\/strong> (we remind you [plural]).<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
esguire correttamente le procedure di lavoro indicate dal tuo datore di lavoro o dal tuo caporeparto<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\ncorrectly carry out the work procedures indicated by your employer or by you head of department. N.B. datore di lavoro<\/strong> literally means ‘giver of work’ and is the most common way of saying ’employer’. Caporeparto<\/strong> comes from the two words ‘capo’ <\/strong>(head)and ‘reparto’ <\/strong>(department)<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
non rimuovere n\u00e9 modificare i dispositivi di protezione delle macchine<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\ndon’t remove or modify machinery<\/font> protection devices  <\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
segnalare al tuo responsabile eventuali disfunzioni delle macchine e\/o impianti<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\nadvise your line manager of possible malfunctions in the machinery and\/or systems. N.B. il tuo responsabile<\/strong> is literally ‘the person who is responsible for you’.
eventuale<\/strong> is a ‘false friend’ in that it sounds like the English ‘eventual’ but actually means ‘possible’.
Impianto<\/strong> is the most common way of describing a ‘system’ or ‘installation’ e.g. l’impianto elettrico<\/strong> ( the electrical installation)<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
usare i dispositivi di protezione individuale che ti hanno fornito<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\nuse the personal protection devices that you have been provided with. N.B. ti hanno fornito<\/strong> literally means <\/em><\/font>‘they have supplied you with’.<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
