If you&#8217;ve studied that blog you will all be familiar with <strong>&#8216;I Tuoi Diritti&#8217;<\/strong> (Your Rights), <\/font><font size=\"2\">but, of course, as an employee you also have <strong>&#8216;I Tuoi Doveri&#8217;<\/strong> (Your Duties). Let&#8217;s find out what they are and use it as an opportunity to explore a bit more &#8216;bureaucratic Italian&#8217;:<\/font><\/p>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"8\" width=\"526\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><strong><font size=\"2\">Ti ricordo che hai anche dei doveri:<\/font><\/strong><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">I remind you that you also have duties: <em>N.B. as we saw in part one this leaflet makes use of the informal <strong>&#8216;tu&#8217; <\/strong>in&#160; order to seem a bit more &#8216;user friendly&#8217;. Interestingly it also uses the phrase <strong>ti ricordo<\/strong> (I remind you). This is quite a personal touch and is a relatively new trend in Italy, it would be more common to read <strong>vi ricordiamo<\/strong> (we remind you [plural]).<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>esguire correttamente le procedure di lavoro indicate dal tuo datore di lavoro o dal tuo caporeparto<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">correctly carry out the work procedures indicated by your employer or by you head of department. <em>N.B. <strong>datore di lavoro<\/strong> literally means &#8216;giver of work&#8217; and is the most common way of saying &#8217;employer&#8217;. <strong>Caporeparto<\/strong> comes from the two words <strong>&#8216;capo&#8217; <\/strong>(head)and <strong>&#8216;reparto&#8217; <\/strong>(department)<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>non rimuovere n\u00e9 modificare i dispositivi di protezione delle macchine<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">don&#8217;t remove or modify <font size=\"2\">machinery<\/font> protection devices&#160; <\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>segnalare al tuo responsabile eventuali disfunzioni delle macchine e\/o impianti<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">advise your line manager of possible malfunctions in the machinery and\/or systems. <em>N.B. <strong>il tuo responsabile<\/strong> is literally &#8216;the person who is responsible for you&#8217;.               <br \/><strong>eventuale<\/strong> is a &#8216;false friend&#8217; in that it sounds like the English &#8216;eventual&#8217; but actually means &#8216;possible&#8217;.               <br \/><strong>Impianto<\/strong> is the most common way of describing a &#8216;system&#8217; or &#8216;installation&#8217; e.g. <strong>l&#8217;impianto elettrico<\/strong> ( the electrical installation)<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>usare i dispositivi di protezione individuale che ti hanno fornito<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">use the personal protection devices that you have been provided with. <em>N.B. <strong>ti hanno fornito<\/strong> literally <font size=\"2\"><em>means <\/em><\/font>&#8216;they have supplied you with&#8217;.<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"261\"><font size=\"2\"><strong>sottoporti a visita medica nei casi previsti dalla legge<\/strong><\/font><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"263\"><font size=\"2\">undergo medical checkups as prescribed by law. <em>N.B. <font size=\"2\"><strong>casi previsti dalla legge<\/strong> <\/font>(literally: cases provide for in law).<\/em><\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the first part of this blog I explored some of the bureaucratic language found in a &#8216;health and safety at work&#8217; leaflet.
