I\u2019m not generally a big tattoo fan, but every now and then I see one that I like. Yesterday morning was sunny and warm, my friend Luca had his shirt sleeves rolled up, and I noticed for the first time an intriguing tattoo on the inside of his right forearm:<\/p>\n

The Pursuit of Happiness<\/font> I read out loud \u2026 \u201cwow, qualcuno lo capisce!\u201d<\/strong> (wow, someone understands it!\u201d) exclaimed Luca. \u201cma certo che lo capisco \u2026 sono inglese, no?\u201d<\/strong> I replied.<\/p>\n

I asked him why he\u2019d chosen that particular tattoo and he explained that he\u2019d had it done to help him get through a difficult period in his life. This led to an interesting conversation based around the philosophical concept of \u201ccarpe diem, quam minimum credula postero\u201d<\/strong> (Latin:<\/em> \u201cseize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future\u201d Horace 65 \u2013 8 BC<\/em>)<\/p>\n

So this week we\u2019re bringing you three blogs based on the theme of The Pursuit of Happiness<\/font>, beginning today with Giorgia’s \u2018Vivi Davvero\u2019<\/strong> (Really Live), a genuine musical tiramis\u00f9!<\/p>\n

hovering amongst the blue and desperate lovers who’ve never found pure love
bent to the rules of the low cost market
I regret, I deplore this sin
but when I breathe I realise that I really exist
and we are isolated, mediocre, dumb and without memory in search of glory
but look the summer’s back, there’s hope again..

*Interesting Note: il buon partito<\/strong>: In traditional heraldry, when titled couples were married, a shield divided longitudinally carried on the right the symbol of the man, and on the left that of the woman. This was known as uno scudo partito<\/strong> (a divided shield). From this derives the idea of il buon partito<\/strong>, which has nothing to do with political parties, but means \u2018to marry well\u2019, i.e. to marry a partner of higher financial or social standing. Bet you didn\u2019t know that! (I didn\u2019t until I wrote this blog).<\/p>\n
