At the recent European convention of geologists in Rome the massive problem of landslides in Italy was high on the agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn pochi numeri Gian Vito Graziano, presidente del Consiglio nazionale dei geologi, fa capire le dimensioni dei fenomeni franosi nel nostro Paese. Circa il 70% di tutte le frane del continente europeo sono concentrate da noi. \u00c8 il dato allarmante che emerge dal convegno dei geologi europei a Roma.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cGian Vito Graziano, president of the National Council of Geologists, briefly summed up the scale of the landslide phenomenon in our country. Roughly 70% of all landslides on the European continent are concentrated in Italy. This is the alarming news that emerged at the European convention of geologists in Rome\u201d<\/p>\n

Tre cose da fare <\/strong>– <\/strong>Three things to be done<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Italia non siamo capaci di programmare\u201d, osserva Graziano.\u00a0 \u201cTre le cose da fare: nell\u2019immediato puntare sugli investimenti, nel medio termine fornire la giusta consapevolezza alle persone, e nel lungo periodo pensare a una revisione della normativa\u201d. Per Graziano \u201cc\u2019\u00e8 da piangere\u201d se si pensa che \u201cfranano alcuni centri storici e preziosi beni culturali tra i pi\u00f9 importanti al mondo: da Pompei ad Agrigento, alla Valle dei Templi a Sibari sotto il fango.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not capable of planning here in Italy\u201d, observes Graziano. \u201cThree things have to be done: in the immediate future aim at investing, in the medium term raise people\u2019s awareness, and in the long term think about revising the regulations\u201d. For Graziano \u201cit\u2019s enough to make you cry\u201d when you think that \u201csome historic centres and precious cultural heritages, amongst the most important in the world, are being swept away: from Pompeii to Agrigento, from the Valley of the Temples to Sybaris, under the mud.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cE anche Roma ha problemi di dissesto. Eppure la prevenzione costa 3-4 volte meno che riparare i danni. Per di pi\u00f9 in questo modo perdiamo cultura, turismo, immagine\u201d, aggiunge il presidente del Consiglio nazionale dei geologi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEven Rome has problems of geological instability. But prevention costs 3-4 times less than repairing the damage. What\u2019s more, due to this situation we\u2019re losing culture, tourism, and our positive image\u201d, adds the president of the National Council of Geologists.<\/p>\n

Fa poi rabbia pensare che l\u2019Italia \u00e8 la nazione con il maggior numero di geologi. \u201cIn Europa sono 30 mila, e la met\u00e0 sono italiani\u201d, spiega Domenico Calcaterra, segretario generale della Federazione europea dei geologi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also infuriating to think that Italy is the nation with the most geologists. \u201cIn Europe there are 30 thousand, and half of them are Italian\u201d, explains Domenico Calcaterra, general secretary of the European Federation of Geologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
