The man waits for his lover to confirm his fears. \u201cDo what you want with me, I know that I mean nothing to you anymore\u201d he says, and begs her \u201cgive me that poison \u2026 if you kill me I won\u2019t resist\u201d. This is the theme of the beautiful and tragic Neapolitan song \u2018Indifferentemente\u2019 by Salvatore Mazzocco and Umberto Martucci, which was first presented to the public at the Festival di Napoli in October 1963.<\/p>\n

When I first heard Indifferentemente, in the wonderful version recorded by Mina<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a> on her album Napoli in 1996, I was immediately struck by its resemblance to the Fado music of Portugal. Interestingly, the song also appears in John Turturro\u2019s 2010 film Passione<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, beautifully interpreted by the Portugese Fado singer M\u00ecsia<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

As for the translation of the title of this song, well \u2018Indifferently\u2019 would be the obvious literal translation, but perhaps something more like \u2018It Doesn\u2019t Matter Any More\u2019 works better.<\/p>\n
