Last Friday, the 11th of July, was the 80th birthday of renowned Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani. Although Armani known throughout the world for his clean tailored menswear, especially his trademark jacket \u2018la giacca destrutturata\u2019<\/strong>, what particularly interests me is the work he has done for cinema.<\/p>\n

Armani\u2019s suits have starred in many well know Hollywood movies. Remember the scene from American Gigolo<\/strong> (1980) in which Richard Gere tries on several Armani outfits which sport those distinctive high waisted trousers? Then there was the cult 80\u2019s TV series Miami Vice<\/strong>: who liked Don Johnson\u2019s pastel coloured jackets worn over tight T-shirts?\u00a0 \u201cCosa?! la giacca senza neanche la camicia?\u201d<\/strong> (What?! A jacket without even a shirt?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The list of movies goes on and on \u2026 here is just a small selection: Gattaca<\/strong>, A Good Year<\/strong>, Ocean\u2019s Thirteen<\/strong>, Inglorious Basterds<\/strong>, The Tree of Life<\/strong>, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol<\/strong>, and more recently The Wolf of Wall Street<\/strong> with Leonardo Di Caprio.<\/p>\n

But Armani is not only associated with menswear. In the 80\u2019s and 90\u2019s Armani suits were a must for women (especially Italian women) wishing to make a career and get powerful jobs. Here are a coiple of films in which Armani has outfitted powerful career women:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
