Ne<\/strong> is one of those famous tricky little words that is guaranteed to frustrate any student of Italian. A few years ago we wrote THIS BLOG<\/font><\/em><\/strong><\/a> on the subject, and I strongly advise anyone who is having problems with the use of ne<\/strong> to read it through thoroughly. Today though, I\u2019m going to follow Mary Poppin\u2019s philosophy of \u2018a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down\u2019<\/em>. The medicine is ne<\/strong>, and the sugar is a lovely song by Annalisa Scarrone<\/strong> called Per Una Notte o Per Sempre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Andarsene<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n

Andarsene<\/strong> is a reflexive form of the verb andare<\/strong> = to go, in which ne<\/strong> has the meaning of \u2018from here\u2019. Here\u2019s the conjugation in the present tense:<\/p>\n

io me ne vado<\/strong> = I go away
tu te ne vai<\/strong> = you go away
lui\/lei se ne va<\/strong> = he\/she goes away
noi ce ne andiamo<\/strong> = we go away
voi ve ne andate<\/strong> = you (plural) go away
loro se ne vanno<\/strong> = they go away<\/p>\n

The imperative, vattene!<\/strong> = go away!, is used when you are angry with someone, or someone is bothering you.<\/p>\n
