Per quanto tempo hai abitato<\/font> a Genova? \u2026 Ci ho abitato per<\/font> quindici anni <\/strong>(hai abitato<\/strong>, in Italian, gives the sense of an event in the past that is now finished, i.e. \u2018did you live\u2019. Hence, in English this sentence would translate as \u201chow long did you live in Genova for?\u201d \u2026 \u201cI lived there for fifteen years\u201d)
<\/font>1. Da quanto tempo<\/font> abiti<\/font> a Genova? \u2026 Ci abito da<\/font> quindici anni <\/strong>(we need to use the present tense when an action is still on-going. The translation \u201chow long do you live in Genova for\u201d sounds odd to an English speaker but is, in fact, correct)
<\/font>2. Da quanto \u00e8 che abiti<\/font> a Genova? \u2026 Ci abito da<\/font> quindici anni <\/strong>(this is a very common colloquial way of saying the same thing. Here \u201cquanto \u00e8 che\u201d<\/strong> replaces \u201cquanto tempo\u201d<\/strong>)<\/font><\/p>\n

What\u2019s your favourite colour? I\u2019ve always liked green
Qual \u00e8 il tuo colore preferito? a me non \u00e8 mai piaciuto<\/font> il verde <\/strong>(lit: \u201chas never pleased me\u201d)
