<\/font>In Italy it\u2019s a common practice to announce the birth of a baby by hanging a big ribbon on your door with the name of the baby embroidered on it: un fiocco rosa per annunciare la nascita di una bambina, e un fiocco azzurro per quella di un bambino <\/strong>(a pink ribbon to announce the birth of a baby girl, and a blue ribbon for a baby boy).<\/p>\n

Today we are going to look at some of the vocabulary that we use for the arrival of a new born baby<\/font>:<\/font><\/p>\n

la gravidanza<\/strong> = the pregnancy<\/font><\/p>\n

aspettare un bambino<\/strong> = to be pregnant\/to be expecting a child (literally: to expect a child)<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n

essere in dolce attesa<\/strong> = to be pregnant (<\/font>literally: to be in sweet awaiting)<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n

la futura mamma<\/strong> = the soon to be mother<\/font><\/p>\n

il futuro pap\u00e0<\/strong> = the soon to be father<\/font><\/p>\n

il beb\u00e8<\/strong> = the baby. (we use this French word beb\u00e8<\/strong> when the baby\u2019s gender isn\u2019t known, e.g. before its birth)<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n

il parto<\/strong> = the delivery, from the verb partorire<\/strong> = to give birth<\/font><\/p>\n

la nascita<\/strong> = the birth, from the verb nascere<\/strong> = to be born<\/font><\/p>\n

il lieto evento<\/strong> = the birth (literally<\/font>: the joyful event)<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n

dare alla luce<\/strong> = to give birth (literally: to give to the light)<\/em><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00e8 nato Bruno<\/strong> = Bruno has been\/was born <\/font><\/p>\n

\u00e8 nata Laura<\/strong> = Laura has been\/was born <\/font><\/p>\n

\u00e8 arrivata la cicogna<\/strong> = the stork has arrived (i.e. the baby has arrived)<\/font><\/em><\/font><\/p>\n
